Live, passionate and fearless, her prowess over the turntables is history in birth.From playing drums in the church choir, to making beats with her boy, while others would hear music—KStarr would feel it: the melodies, notes and souls of sound. A drummer, mixologist, creator and producer, her mastery of beat and rhythm came from the early sounds of Nina Simone, Anita Baker, Kurtis Blow, Africa Bambatta and Tribe Called Quest. With two rusted out turntables and a bunch of two dollar records, DJ KStarr began spinning real music for real people.The rest was history.Always unexpected, real and tight, her spinning has put her into high demand all over the city. In the last few years, DJKstarr has come up from spinning rusted out turntables at house parties for free, to rocking some of the fiercest clubs in New York. Including spots like Maracas, Club Vesta, Opaline, Brown Sugar, Brown Sugar Supper Club, Club Spills, Fuel Ray, The Door Lounge, Club Alibi, Spin Radio FM, Fat Baby, Julani Lounge, The Lab, Clubs out of state, club tuts, the Parrot, and llegamos radio home of "the rundown" which is the hottest hiphop internet radio station in nyc. While spinning for the Hot 97.1 party last year and for rah digga who was once party of bust ryhmes flipmode squad kstarr began working on her mixtape called "listen up" Da wake Up call" dedicated to the real hiphop lovers and to the people that need to be woke up. At 26, Kstarr is one of the youngest, hungriest DJs out there, and she is pushing to take over not only NYC, but the entire globe.In her hands, the crowd is pushed from every day clubbing into a wild party that won't stop, until DJKStarr walks away from the turntables.What is hip-hop?: Hip-hop is a culture. The term is loosely used when referring to commercialized rap music, however hip-hop is more than just music. It is the hearbeat of American ghetto youth who claimed their own self-expression and used it to rise above their physical circumstances. Hip-hop culture has its roots in pride, truth, courage and self-determination. As a result it has grown to influence almost every segment of the planet.
