About Me
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mysterio got his career started during his toddler years when his older brother introduced him to rap and Hip Hop's elite of the 1980's. "Music's been a part of my life for as long as I could remember.", says Mysterio. His brother began writing songs after he was inspired by such rappers as B. Nice, Slick Rick, and Grandmaster Flash, and due to this, Mysterio was taught to "beat box". "It started with my brother beat boxing when he would emulate the instrumentals off of songs, or when he was just goofing around with his friends. We're so close, both him and my younger brother. I was always around him and his friends at home, so I eventually learned how to beat box at the age of four. I already knew how to read and write, somewhat more advanced than most four year-olds. Now I knew how to beat box, something many people even my age now can't do (laughing). Eventually, I was doing the beat boxing for my brother as we got older, and he would 'freestyle' over it. I was like Buffy from the Fat Boys and he was Prince Markie Dee and Kool Rock-Ski in one. Ironically, both Buffy and myself share the same birthday."
After years of beatboxing, shortly before his sixteenth birthday, Mysterio decided to take a venture into writing his own rhymes. "For years I watched my brother write, and recite in front of the mirror. I heard a few recordings he did with his friends, but unfortunately he didn't go too far with it. I was going through a ton of stress within my family and one way I was able to channel all of my emotions was to write rhymes about my experiences." Mysterio credits his friends from High School with giving him his rap name. "I was writing with no given rap name until I remembered how every one called me 'Mysterio', from the wrestler Rey Mysterio. I used to be on the varsity wrestling team in high school, so that was where it came from. I was small and fast as hell. Plus, I had no problem wrestling anyone bigger than me. I incorporated that name into my music because I always want to keep everyone guessing. I'm unpredictable with the songs I do."
For a brief period, Mysterio was affiliated with "The Black Ops" rap group out of Long Island, a group of high school friends whom Mysterio rapped with. However, Mysterio decided that at that moment, music wasn't something he wanted to do full-time, and focused ..ing High School and later College, while doing music as a hobby. "I didn't want to put everything into music while having nothing to fall back on. That's my mother's fear for me because she has a brother who did the same thing. In life, you should always have a Plan A, B, and C, in case things don't pull through."
Moving back to Queens, he met future teammates A-Tech, Driddy, and Lean in high school. Participating in an afterschool music production club, Mysterio learned more about recording and engineering, which helped him along the way. "Beat Club certainly helped everyone who came there to learn. Whether it was how to correctly count 'bars', putting a beat together, or just learning how to connect everything to make sure the proper output came out, it was an incredible learning experience you could take far."
Now at the age of 22 and after completing college in 2007, Mysterio has been on a tear, recording track after track, and finishing his first and much anticipated mix tape "M.Y.S.T.E.R.I.O. (Make Young Soldiers Take Every Road I Open)". Although the mix tape has yet to be released, it is sure to make an impact on both the underground and mainstream music scene. From his high energy "First Hit" and story-telling style in "Shake That" to his inspirational "M.Y.S.T.E.R.I.O." title track, the young artist displays a limitless range of musical styles in his work.
Being a part of the stable "B'z Tha Block", Mysterio vows that along with his "family", "music will never be the same." Known for his energetic on-stage and off-stage personality, the self-proclaimed "Number One Draft Pick of South Jamaica, Queens" is definitely an artist to look out for in the near future!
