DEAD BABY DOLPHIN IN POLLUTED WATERS Amost half of the St. Lucie River Dolphin are sick and diseased with tumors,fungal growths and viral infections. Two new diseases found are lobomycosis and a tumor inducing herpes virus. Scientists and researchers are finding the dolphin to have an increased resistance to antibiotics which may indicate certain drugs are entering our waterways. They discovered flame retardants(polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDE's) used in foams and plastics in the dolphin tissue. Researchers and Scientists agree that the dolphin are getting sicker.

MITZI, the first Flipper(a female dolphin), was trained at the Santini Porpoise School, later the Dolphin Research Center, by Milton Santini. Mitzi died in 1972 at age fourteen.
