We're only the ripples we cause

About Me

"A mind-bending, heart-breaking, awe-inspiring missile of sound" - Time Out

"Dazzling, triumphant..." - The Lock, Camden

"Subterraneans are that most precious of things, a truly existential rock’n’roll band with a heart and a soul" - Varsity

"Against you I will fling myself, unvanquished and unyielding" - Virginia Woolf

Subterraneans can swallow landscapes and swill down sunsets, or grapple the whole Earth with hoops of steel. They have never skipped a pulse beat over what others think. Each of their records creates a world of it’s own. They do not do as others do. Only their silence is painful.
It’s hard to believe that they’re only a rock group.

"No" live at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire, 28th March 2007, courtesy of Will Wilson (thanks Will!) "Arise and drink your bliss, for everything that lives is holy" - William Blake Subterraneans formed in London (which is important) in 1992 (which isn’t). They were formed by singer and songwriter Jude Rawlins, and guitarist Carl Homer. Jude used to be in Angelhead. Carl used to be in Wave. They were joined by bassist Robin Phillips (ex-Solstice) and Guy Evans (Van der Graaf Generator). They started their own label, The Electric Label, in 1993, having wasted a year of their precious time (which they still want back) squandering themselves on Sony. The rest is history. What matters more is the music, and Subterraneans don’t need to make any big claims about that, you can hear for yourself, in fact you’re probably listening right now. Thank you for listening right now.

What are the FLOWERS OF EVIL?

Woah! We post up "The Litanies of Satan" and within a day I'm getting angry messages from religious types, all them considerably less holy than anything Baudelaire ever wrote. Perhaps the presence of ...
