Album on sale in Road Records, Dublin & iTunes

About Me

Good morning all. The Red Rose Cafe's debut album, 'The New Year Tapes', is on sale now on the iTunes Music Store. ____________________________________________________________ _______________ The Red Rose Cafe is the pseudonym (if that is the correct term) of Co.Donegal songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Philip Morrow. On the 23rd of August 2006 he launched his self-released debut album, "The New Year Tapes" at the Balor Theatre, Ballybofey, and the album has been attracting great reviews ever since.______________________________________________________ _____________________ Work on the album began in June 2006, when Philip and the band had the privilege of recording with producer Terry McGinty for two days having been one of the winners of the Letterkenny Arts Centre's competition to discover and promote new music in the North-West area. The two songs they recorded in June are featured on "Atama", the compilation record the Arts Centre released showcasing the four winners from the competition.________________________________________________ ___________________________ Following the release of Atama, The Red Rose Cafe returned to Terry to start work on what would eventually become "The New Year Tapes". The ten tracks on the record feature Joseph Brown on clarinet and bass; Hannah Gallagher on vocals and flute; Darragh Boyd on violin and vocals; and Johnny Brown on drums and vocals. Already the Red Rose Cafe's music and lyrics are drawing comparisons from critics to Dylan, Bright Eyes, Iron and Wine, Bell X1, and Josh Ritter._____________________________________________________ ______________________ On the 13th of October 2006, Philip played in the Templebar music centre as part of Hard Working Class Heroes 2006. The Red Rose Cafe was one over 80 acts who played the festival and who were chosen from a shortlist of over 700.________________________________________________________ ____________________ A song from 'the new year tapes' has just been chosen to feature on Matchbox recordings latest compilation album, The Great Indie Comeback, which will be released in the near future._____________________________________________________ _______________________ You can get 'The New Year tapes' locally in Universal records in Letterkenny and Ballybofey Music Centres, Cool Discs in Derry and Redlight Records in Galway. There are plans to release the four songs Philip and Ryan recorded in Belfast as a short EP in June 2007.
