Nick Andrew

guitarist, midi guitarist, composer, nutter!

About Me

Nick is a remarkably accomplished guitarist whose range encompasses the full spectrum from flamenco and classical to jazz and rock and is not only a dazzling soloist but also an intuitive and creative rhythm player. His playing style is technically highly adept but always innovative and appropriate to its musical context, whether on acoustic, electric or MIDI instruments. Nick grew up in Scotland, where he established a formidable reputation as a virtuoso guitarist, composer, teacher and sessioneer. Nick has also just released a solo album called "Solo?" In which the Mad Scotsman plays all the instruments himself. All on guitar! Even the Violas, drums, whooshes and gongs, using modern Midi guitar technology and a "wee computer". As well as 3 original works (2 of which use a small orchestra) there are also re-interpretations of some classic classics like Chopins' Nocturne in Eb, Paganinis' 24th Caprice and (the outrageous) the Flight of the Bumble Bee by Rimsky-Korsakov. You have to hear it (then double check it by listening to it again), to believe it! The CD is available online from CDunsigned.com and CDbaby.com. For more details, audio delights and 'interesting' pictures visit Nicks website, www.nickandrew.net.
..
He moved to London in 1997 to further develop his career, working on a wide range of solo and collaborative projects with various cover bands, FU2K (a U2 tribute band) and Jazz Fusioneers Curfew (www.curfew.co.uk). He also produced Curfews latest release "Hold the Front Page". One of Nicks other bands is ESKB which is more in the folk/rock/pop mould. To check out their latest video go to www.sk-b.co.uk. Nick also writes two columns for Europes top online guitar magazine, alloutguitar.com. One on Fusion style guitar and another on Midi guitar. Copy the link to visit the site; http://www.alloutguitar.com/ http://www.alloutguitarfest.com/ In addition to his various producing and recording work Nick also lectures for a number of music schools and colleges in the south east. Here is a wee advert for my solo guitar playing. Here are Curfew playing "Flight of the Bumble Blues" from my album Solo? I think they were very brave to learn it and perform it, especially as Martin (keys) and David (drums) are reading it!!!!This is me playing an edited version of "3 Funk" which appears on Curfews latest album, "Hold the Front Page".This is me mucking around with my Midi rig for my midi guitar column which you can find in the online guitar magazine alloutguitar.com.
