Music education/training has to be fun and interesting, but also requires a great deal of interest,

About Me

..
Powered by iSOUND.COM
I am a music teacher, giving lessons for both guitar and bass in three different cities in East TN. I teach at Tooter's Music in Cleveland, TN, and Salt and Light Dance Studios in Sweetwater, TN as well as at the Boys and Girls Club of America's Teen Center in Madisonville, TN(call 423-519-8144 for more information).
My outlook on teaching guitar/music is quite a bit different than most other guitar teachers in the area. I believe strongly that each student should have the option of doing anything they want with the new skills they are learning. In order to make my students more employable versatile musicians in the long run, I offer training in sight reading of standard music notation, as well as heavy education in theory and technique in order to enable the student to easily and quickly pick up, improv, or read in any style. If they want to get into a good school I want them to have the option of gaining the skills to excel in those programs. This is what sets me apart from many of the other teachers in the area who only teach by rote (watch and do as I do method) or by guitar tab.
I train fully functioning musicians who have the option of becoming professionals if they exercise the interest, dedication, and discipline to do so. I tailor each lesson to the student, how they learn best and what they want to learn while integrating theory and technique in a practical manner that makes the student want to practice and achieve a level of excellence on the instrument. To do this, I utilize several volumes from the Berklee Press Library, the Carcassi Classical Guitar Method and many other well-known well-proven methods melded into a cohesive tailor-made method for each student as an individual.
However, if someone just wants to play as a hobby, I am more than happy to show them whatever they want to know in order to make it more fun and interesting for them by working on the most efficient ways of doing things in order to minimize practice time which may be tight because of previous engagements with sports, other studies, or an already chosen career path. When it comes down to it, making things fun is the most important aspect. If the method, no matter how rigid, is not fun for the student, s/he is not likely to stick with it. The lessons, practice routine and learned repertoire have to be fun and interesting for the student. Please visit and add me at Myspace.com Music Profile: Jack Aikens Music
