About Shlomo
In Björks words, Shlomo is "the new bright hope of the hip-hop scene". In fact, the queen of avant-pop was so impressed by Shlomo's beatboxing skills that she invited him to perform on 2004's
Medulla, her album that shunned all instruments in favour of human voices. "She left me a voicemail", recalls the 22-year-old. "She said, 'Hi, my name is Björk. Im recording an album and I would really love it if you came down!'"
Shlomo's interest in rhythm started at an early age; he was drumming with his dad's jazz quartet in Maidenhead by the age of 14. "When I wasn't with my drum kit", he says, "I would always be tapping my legs or clicking my teeth".
Soon enough, he was spotted by Brit beatboxer Killa Kela at a party. "He called me up on to the stage. Everyone went mad and I got a bit of a taste for it." Lately, Shlomo has been wowing the crowds at London's Jazz Cafe with his jaw-dropping one-man renditions of Snoop Dogg's Drop it Like its Hot and the White Stripes' Seven Nation Army, as well as making an appearance on Later.. with Jools Holland, which he typically took in his stride - "It was cool, man".
