Molasses

About Me

Far too long between drinks, scintillating, rockmongering Melbourne four-piece Molasses return to the fold with their first show for 2008 at The Tote's Cobra Bar on Friday May 2, and, in a real coup, they've lined up 5/6ths of the sensational six-piece Rock Strip house band, The Purring Furmaids, as special guests, making for one almightily raucous send-off for a certain bass player, common to both line-ups, who's heading out of the country for a spell, for some reason... PLUS - There'll be rawk DJ sets from Isnod! Surely this won't be the only Molasses show for the year... but, on form, who in their right mind would dare risk missing it?

AND... PREVIOUSLY

Hooray! - Molasses are to grace a Melbourne stage once more! Details and small print shortly; meantime, here's the bare minimum that needs be known: Molasses will play our beloved Tote for 3CR's "Filly Fest", Sun 2 December, early that evening, in amongst a slew of wonderful bands and other entertainments.

We don't mean to suggest that Molasses has been an idle unit the several months since last we played. We're slowly getting that bit nearer to completing a debut long-player, courtesy of John Watson's crack production work atop Robbie Adams' formidable engineering. This combination captured some GOLD!, we tells ya!, over one very intense weekend of initial tracking at Sing Sing South, in South Yarra, very late in June, with much additional greatness to have been further eked and coaxed out of the 12 tunes recorded at intervals ever since. Thanks John! Thank you RGA!

More news about the LP...and some tunes here on this very page...soon!

The modest tenement let out to half of Molasses was rudely burgled this New Year's Eve Eve just passed. Where those less soused in the spirit of Rock might but cower and apprehend only disaster, the three darling dames and single fine upstanding gent of Molasses see instead only a grand opportunity to put on a cracking fundraising show, one last gig before singer Melody sods off to Europe for a spell where she'll sorely be needing some serious spondulics much like those she's just been so foully and comprehensively relieved of.

So: for one night only, and for the first time since November and the last time before March, Molasses will ply their irresistible, hooks-heavy, swinging, swaggering, uniquely flat-chat brand of rock 'n' roll, in the Tote's Cobra Bar on Saturday, January 20. Added specialness: There'll be support from Molasses' drummer extraordinaire Nicola Bell's other band, the staunch and delectable Teko; a lovingly loaded rock hamper will be raffled, and on top of an airing of the cream excavated by a rummage through the Molasses archives, several stout tunes from Molasses' forthcoming record, to be produced by the redoubtable John Watson, will be previewed. And rock will be seen and heard to have prevailed over petty villainy once more.

BIO

Molasses are a hip-quakin', nothin'-fakin' four-piece from Melbourne, Australia - three darling dames and one fine upstanding gent, who like nowt better than to don their glad rags on any given day and corral their ever restive mojos to wreak an irresistible swinging, swaggering, flat-chat rock 'n' roll good time for all and sundry.

Molasses features three folk from the late and lamented ilk, and, by a comfortable margin, are more rock than cock. Hot damn.

Their debut 8-song-strong CD, '... and stuff', was launched at Collingwood's Tote Hotel in March of '06. Recorded live in Dec '05 and Jan '06, it's an absolute freakin' corker.
