About Me

Tankboy resides in the body of some tall blonde guy and lives in Chicago with Pickle the Kitten, and a beagle named Betty who may actually be slightly more famous than most of the musicians slogging through the local scene. He's written about music for much longer than most bands you hear on the radio have even existed. He also swears that it wasn't him who did that and has learned that "deny everything" is a basic tenet of existence.

My Interests

Rock and/or Roll, Reading and Writing, but Not 'Rithmetic.

I'd like to meet:

I've already met 'em.

Music:

Blur, Bowie, Jane's Addiction, Pavement, The Who, Green Day, The Stooges, Mark Lanegan, QOTSA, Afghan Whigs, Built to Spill, Dandy Warhols, Stone Roses, most other Madchester bands, JSBX and Boss Hog, Tom Waits, Uncle Tupelo and Wilco (and early Son Volt), Weezer, Jeff Buckley, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, Killers, Franz Fancypants, Ted Leo, Annie, the Dears, Yellow Note Vs Pukka, Kelly Clarkson ... kee-rist ... if I try to list what I listen to there won't be any room left on the page.

Movies:

Unfortunately High Fidelity encapsulates many of my early years all too well, right down to the screaming in the rain the DJing at Double Door. other notables include Philadelphia Story, Breakfast At Tiffany's, Spinal Tap, Blade Runner, Wet Hot American Summer, anything by Wes Anderson, Kevin Smith, Tarantino or Jonze...jeez...this is almost as pointless as trying to list any bands!

Television:

During the regular season I watch The Simpsons, 24, Lost, and Footballers Wives. Aside from that it's lots of DVD sets of shows only I seem to remember, like Sledgehammer and his ilk.

Books:

Anything by David Foster Wallace, Rick Moody or Will Self. Nabakov and Gaddis and Vonnegut...I was an English major and still read voraciously so this is another endless list so I'll fill it in as I go along.

Heroes:

Betty the Beagle, Lucy the Dog, Chloe the Cat, and Pickle the Kitten

Liar’s Club October 16, 2008 Set-list

Thursday was fun. There was a Tossers listening party early on so I stuck with mostly familiar Liar's Club sounds ... heavy on the rock and the punk. Since she was coming in to cover a last minute vac...

Hideout Block Party photos are all up!

Man, did I have a blast shooting the bands last weekend. I think my shots came out well, and I tried to get angles and feelings that aren't present in just about every other concert shot you see nowad...

Setlist from Jerrys, September 3, 2008

Where the hell was everyone Wednesday night? Well, your loss. I had another really fun set in an unconventional room that I'm looking forward to returning to next month. The staff at Jerry's was reall...

Setlist from The Continental, August 26, 2008

Whoah, last night was pretty epic. I can't play electronic dance music at The Continental, and it's a 5-hour shift, so it's always challenging to DJ there. Luckily for me a challenge usually equals lo...

Setlist from Liar’s Club, August 7, 2008

Thursday night was a ton of fun musically even if it was kind of a trainwreck emotionally. Luckily I think I was able to keep that side of me hidden at the bar while the tunes were spinning. Thanks ag...

I may have made a huge mistake.

I'm writing this here because, well, pretty much only friends ever read anything I write here. So, I'm in a slightly weird place. I'm sure part of it -- well, most of it, probably -- has to do with th...
