Pop melodies mixed with intense music and lyrics

About Me

Their music has been described as 'pop melodies mixed with more intense music and lyrics'. An apt description it would seem, as 25 year old guitarist Dean Stewart explains:
"For us it's all about the melody. When you hear a great song it's almost always the melody that first grabs you."
Whilst drawing comparisons to the likes of Snow Patrol, early U2 and Coldplay, they have still managed to create a sound all of their own where powerful yet emotional vocals and chiming guitars soar over a rock steady platform of drums and bass guitar.
Hailing from Grimsby in North Lincolnshire, a town better known for its fishing heritage than its contribution to music, the band insist there has always been a hotbed of talent in the town. "People here get stuck in this small town mentality and dont tend to see the bigger picture, its a shame" adds Bass player Gaz Dawson.
Vocalist Mark Stoneman, or Stoney as he prefers to be called joined the band at the beginning of 2006. "They were looking for a singer and I wasn't doing anything at that time so we got together and it all just kind of clicked" he explains.
Dean and Gaz had formed the band almost four years previous with drummer Jason Sleeman coming into the fold a couple of years later. The band had already achieved some modest success, after their track 'Within My Soul' was released on independent record label Leery Tunes. The track was later voted best unsigned track by listeners of the BBC's Raw Talent radio show.
Since Stoney joined though the band have found a new lease of life, deciding to scrap most of their previous material in favour of the more upbeat rocker songs they were now writing. "Stoney just gave us a new edge, something a bit different" adds Dean.
Currently concentrating on writing more material and building on their already staunch local fanbase, the band have already been crowned winners of the 2006 Arts Forum Festival battle of the bands, and have received some rave reviews in local press. All this just a few months after playing their first gig at the world famous Cavern club in Liverpool.
So what does the future hold for Just:? "Were just finishing off our first EP at the moment, then we are going to be making a video which will be interesting!" explains an enthusiastic looking Stoney. In addition to this, the band will be featured on a new music programme to be aired later this year on Sky and Freeview TV channel Propeller TV. And with gigs up and down the country coming in thick and fast the future looks pretty busy for Just: Something they need to get used to by the sound of things!

Sounds Like: GIG REVIEW BY www.thisisull.com
The first band to take to the stage was Just:, a band from Grimsby. Mo was itching to take photos!Cilla: Regardless of the technical difficulties they suffered, we still had the feeling you get sometimes when you see these new bands - they're good. It's like they're experimenting.Mo: What struck me first was the lead guitarist who made sounds that I'd never heard before. Creative with his guitar - it was gorgeous. The lead singer, whose undeniable talent makes you question his similarity to Liam Gallagher has front and attitude that really demands respect. I like this guy!
