About Me

I'm a writer and journalist from Grimsby in Lincolnshire, currently working in Greenwich, South London. My job tends to take me around the houses a bit. In the last five years I've moved from Hull to Darlington to Newcastle and back to Grimsby, which has allowed me to see some really great bands from right across the UK. Fortunately there seems to be no shortage of talent on the local scene down here either. I'm always up for hearing from new bands and helping out in any way I can so if you want something plugging in the local press or just want me to post a link or a banner on here then feel free to drop me a line. Obviously I can't guarantee to respond to every request I get but I'll always try my best.

My Interests

Music and gigs are my main thing but i also love writing, history and politics, science, cinema and the theatre, playing pool, meeting up with my mates and generally just having a laugh.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who can play an instrument.

Music:

I love hearing new unsigned bands, but apart from that I'm a longtime fan of The Manics, The Pistols, BB King, Nirvana and the Foos, Greenday, The Beach Boys, Aretha Franklin, The Clash, Alanis Morissette, Elliott Smith, The Killers, Little Richard, John Lee Hooker, Guns and Roses, Ash, Robert Johnson, Mansun, King Adora, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Easyworld, The Rembrandts, The White Stripes, New Order and pretty much anything else with a good melody.

Movies:

The Star Wars series (except Episode I obviously), The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Good Will Hunting, Schindler's List, Citizen Kane, The Incredibles, It's a Wonderful Life, Glengarry Glen Ross, Titanic, Bladerunner, The Crow, Airplane, The Shawshank Redemption, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, and of course Transformers the Movie.

Television:

The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, King of the Hill (can you see a pattern emerging here?), Have I Got News For You, QI, Top Gear, Friends, ER, Desperate Housewives.

Books:

1984, Old Goriot, Great Expectations, Mrs Dalloway, The Immoralist, Heart of Darkness, The World's Wife, Utopia, Paradise Lost - book IV, Ariel, Cloudcockooland, Coming Up For Air, American Psycho, Madame Bovary, A Short History of Nearly Everything, The Age of Reason.

Heroes:

Too many to name but as a rule of thumb anyone who leaves the world a better place than they found it.
