We have morphed from the coolest shop Grimsby ever saw into THEE BEAT a non Profit Organization. We originally promoted our 2 local nights at THE MATRIX, GRIMSBY. "Do The Dog" A night of Punk/Ska Bands and Punk/Ska vinyl & "Going Underground" A night of live Indie bands, at which we were proud to give THE BRIGHTLIGHTS some of their earliest gigs! with complementary DJ sets Featuring Petes vinyl treasures spanning the sixties to now, via punk-new wave-mod revival-madchester-britpop& indie! With Guest DJs including our Ben.
Then we had a little time off for Pete to quit fuming... er smoking rather.
Now were back older-wiser-bigger-better.
DJ wise the vinyl treasures are ever expanding with Pete getting to play lots of Indie/Alternative stuff well in advance of its official release. He has also rekindled an interest in psychobilly and rockabilly with vinyl to match. Ben has gained much more experience as a DJ and is up for much more than merely a guest slot. Our Harry is growing into himself. At 7 he has formed a band at school and listens to a lot of Greenday!
The nights we now promote are.GOING UNDERGROUND. Live Indie/New Wave bands at THE MATRIX, GRIMSBY or THE SUBMARINE, CLEETHORPESALTERNATIVE/GOTH/ROCKABILLY/PUNK at THE MATRIXBACK TO THE FUTURE a monthly night of 80s Electronica with some contempary Electro thrown into the mix AT BAR-BABYLON on a FridayWe are also connected with BAR-BABYLON UNPLUGGED an ACOUSTIC/INDIE night on a THURSDAY in CLEETHORPES market place which has already played host to some great acts. Not to mention the radio DJs and record label types who've been attending this night. Pete also DJs with next months hits and classic tunes.and... We are part of THE CATS PYJAMAS BURLESQUE CO-OPERATIVE. Angie promotes online and Pete DJs with his rarest US 45s from the 50s/60s (With a bit of Psycho & Goffik)Then theres the monthly DJ DOCTORSHUFFLE set at WILLI'S wine bar. A very late finish, usually 2 or 3am and an eclectic mix of Tunes Downstairs in yer fave seaside watering hole. Think BOOGALOO meats INDIE... HACIENDA meets THE STOOGES.... yeah! yaz get da picture. Our Ben also DJs INDIE & ALTERNATIVE ROCK VINYL!!!We have our own equipment including a choice of PA speakers. Contempory Soundlab/Peavy or vintage (soon to be)PURPLE PA speakers, hooked up to qualty Carlsboro/Sony and Soundlab Amp 'n' Dex. We can also hook up to ANY bands PA via mixing desk or plug into pubs/clubs CD mixers if space is a premium.

My owners Angie and Pete veterens of the National/Local indie, Mod & Alternative scenes.
Angie was a punk in the late 80's then one of Grimsby's original goth's before getting into grunge and britpop and then more recently the latterday modernist movement. She has been to gigs featuring: Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Cult, The Pogues, Manic Street Preachers, David Bowie, The Creation, The Selector, Ian Brown, Mudhoney, Babes In Toyland,Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, UK Subs, Hanoi Rocks, Dinosaur JR, Pavement, Slayer,The Horrors, The Raconteurs to name a few!
Pete became in a mod in 1979, then got into soul & ska, then as a scooterboy got into psychobilly which led to 50's R&B & 60's Garage Punk. Progressing into indie dance and early tekno, and as a new age travellor roots reggae, crusty rave and space rock. Met Angie and then got into brit-pop and more eclectic mod sounds like: Jamaican shuffle, Belgian Popcorn, Mod Jazz, 60's Soul & Freakbeat. He has been to see The Jam,The Horrors, The Kinks, Mad Professor, Bunny Wailer, Dirty Pretty Things,Chumbawamba (PRE-HITS), Ian Brown, The Selector, Sonny Burgess, Orbitol, Citizen Fish, The Truth, The Pogues, Snuff With Rico Rodriguez, Mega City 4, Hawkind,"Pinkwind" (a stoned impromtu mix of The Pink Fairies and Hawkwind with 2 drummers and one reeeeaaaallly long riff in a field in Somerset) Glastonbury 88 + 4 times in the 90's.Leeds Carling weekend 2006- Kaisers-Raconteurs-The Automatic-The Fall-Primal Scream and many more.
They are now both heavily into the local indie & punk scene and have recently enjoyed such GY/Cleethorpes luminaries as:The Brightlights,The Bad Apples, The Sonic Purveyers, The Dazed Dakotas, The Huskies, and the very wonderful Turning Tides!NOT TOO MENTION The Kants,Grave Disorder,The Dappers and the truly original Tribal Merger . Last but certainly not least, there is Ben. At 17 he is the spark behind a lot of THEE BEATS idea's. Although he only worked in the shop some weekends and holidays. His input has been invaluable wether it be music or fashion tips, or even showing the crumblies how the computer works! He has been to see:The Subways, Kaiser Chiefs, Little Man Tate + loads more at Leeds Festival 2006,Blink 182 (twice), Good Charlotte, Bowling For Soup, Anti Nowhere League The Horrors aswell as lots of local Punk/Alternative/Indie bands. Ben has also recently kindled a love for The Stone Roses, thanks to his favourite TV show Shameless.
