About Me

BACKGROUND
James Clarke is a singer/songwriter from the Grimsby area and former front man of the now defunct band ’Whiskeycrow’.
Born in Cleethorpes and raised in Holton-le-Clay/Waltham, he has lived in the Grimsby area all his life apart from spells in Nottingham whilst he attended university to study law.
Music is a big part of James’ life - he loves writing songs, playing gigs and listening to music. He takes the view that as long as he enjoys performing anything else that follows is a bonus.
THE SONGS
’So Long’ is James’ most recent song written in September 2007. The lyrics are self-explanatory.
’The Way Life Is’ is a fairly recent song penned in a very productive week when James wrote 2 other songs. The song pulls together a collection of mundane experiences/encounters with the author daydreaming of things that will probably never come to pass.
’Stay With Me Tonight’ was co-written with James’ current partner. He came up with the chord sequence for the verse back in 2003 during his third year at uni. The lyrics were written upon James’ return from holiday in Menorca in June 2007. "I like to think the song has a double meaning" he says.."it can be interpereted as a holiday romance as well as a desire to return to the same holiday destination in future."
’Can You Feel It?’ was written in an apartment in Nottingham where James was staying for one of his legal practice course weekends in the summer of 2006. "I was messing about playing some chords and this tune came to me" he says.."I couldn’t get it out my head". The outro of "won’t you come and meet me" is a reference to James’ current squeeze who sometimes waits for him outside his office after work.
’You Never Learn’ is a scathing attack on a former colleague of James’. "She was so self-absorbed it was untrue. Any misfortune you were to suffer you can bet your life that she had experienced worse! She was only ever interested in herself." The guitar playing has been likened to the Kooks but James is quick to point out that he wrote the song before they hit the big time. "I wrote the song during the early autumn of 2004 though people new to my music never believe me".
Please check out some of his songs on this page and feel free to add him and leave any comments you may have.
The recordings are just James playing his songs as he writes them; nothing too fancy or difficult. Enjoy.
