Dazed Dakotas

About Me

""Imagine if Led Zeppelin had been to the Hacienda, or if Kasabian were fronted by Paul Rogers! All right that’s 2 pretty bold statements; however I’m describing a pretty bold bunch of artists in the field of live music or rather… RAWK (that’s rock pronounced the “hard” way)The last bracketed after thought is in no way intending to describe the Dazed Dakotas as being a hard rock band by the way, it merely points to the fact that in the great pantheon we now call “indie” our erstwhile heroes are firmly at the rockier end of the spectrum. I should straight away assure the listener/reader that these tunes are no cheap rewrites of Oasis or Libertines numbers as happens all too frequently in 2007. Yea, these are songs and performances to experience repeatedly, not just the once, to say “I’ve seen them!” Speaking of the performance they put on a show you won’t forget in a hurry, this band recently drew 190 relatively early doors, at Leeds cockpit. This is apparently a near unheard of event. They also supported chart toppers ‘The Hoosiers’ at Cleethorpes and by all accounts (gleaned so far anyway) stole the show.Ok so what are the ingredients for this outfit?Well firstly there is the total powerhouse that is the rhythm section , to say that Carl (bass) and Gall (drums) are tight is the understatement of the week, to say that Cowie (rhythm guitar) and the 2 Dazed Dakotas just mentioned are tight is the understatement of the century!Put it this way if your average US rock band has a Detroit V8 for a rhythm section these 3 are more akin to an Italian V12.Then there’s “that” soaring lead guitar going on! Luke’s perfected guitar technique like lightning over the bands thunder and Lee’s voice, which is in effect the bands fifth instrument, he is in effect using his full sexual being as a frontman for entertainments sake. Onstage there is not a hint of this being contrived, girls wanna be with him and lads wanna be him. The band ouse stage presence and have arrogance that makes you want to be with them. All in all they perform!Dazed Dakotas could well be the next big thing, they have the ammunition to do it so just make sure you can get to say “I saw those guys before they played at Glastonbury or were seen on national TV” Check out their live performances, or listen to their tracks!"". Re view From Rock Open - Scunthorpe-"Grimsby-based Dazed Dakotas, however, were the band which really stole the show and were the winners of the heat, with their rousing ensemble of belting songs""The five-piece band are truly in the rock'n'roll vein with their rock looks and abundant talent, and they certainly had the Crosby audience captivated". _________________Review From Mezz Bar Lincoln -"There was a recent Earthquake felt across the UK, the hardest one felt in 25 years experts say, I’m not talking about some tiny tremor at 1 in the morning on some day in February that everyone has pretty much forgotten about. This one happened at Lincoln venue, the Mezz bar around 11:15 when the Dazed Dakota's of Grimsby erupted onto the stage with possibly the best fitting song Iv heard to introduce any set at a gig. 20-20 says to any audience, 'right here we are, so stand the f**k up and have a good time'. The sudden transfer of energy to the onlooking audience is unbelievable, its as though someone pulled out a yo-yo and said 'don’t worry, its cool again, just let yourself go' and how they did at this performance. Stamping their authority doesn’t even come close to how these chaps let their presence be felt. Its impossible to raise an eyebrow at anything this band does either, no one would question a morris dancer joining them, it would just seem to go despite the diversity. With such a great set of songs all of a consistent high standard and rock'n'roll touch, no one in the venue gets a rest and a trip to the toilet would almost be criminal while they still grace us with their presence. The guitar riffs sweep around you forcing you to move limbs, the guys either have magic instruments or this band simply have remarkable talent and I’m not one for wizardry so I’m going with the latter. Perhaps the most influential factor of this band in pleasing an audience is their clear enthusiasm and enjoyment they display when playing. Some have mistaken this for arrogance which may be the case when you are this good, but in truth its the level of passion they have to perform well for one another and indeed a crowd that raises the bar for their rivals. I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw a textbook on how to be a frontman in W.H Smith, the author being vocalist Rosie who has every tool in the box to switch on an audience. Certainly one of a kind and transforms most casual observers at a gig into a Dakota!!! There are few bands who have managed to write a song that possesses an actual story into an awesome song, but the Dazed Dakota's make this look easy with 'Modern', a sublime song that sees every member of the band at their best, everything fits so well, whilst the lyrics send us on a trip to a drive-thru bookshop in a VW camper then back round to experience a festival all in the space of four minutes. Everyone who witnessed this incredible performance will have been swaggering through town the next day, still armed with a memorable performance from the Dazed Dakota's."Martin Steeper [RaW] live music
