My Interests

Using music, light and sound to inspire compassion and awareness of our connectedness to each other and to the natural world (as if there were a difference?).The life in this world is so awesome, and we're actively destroying it. Meanwhile, the wealthiest nations on earth are consuming a vastly disproportionate amount of resources while letting millions of others suffer needlessly.Something's gotta change. And that change is you and me.

I'd like to meet:

All those who breathe deeply in the heart.

Music:

I love all music born of passion. I avoid the use of categories, as this is a concept created by music marketeers. So often, music from the heart has no categories, no boxes, no definitions and no boundaries. It is simply "music"... and it is free.(to sample music from my 10 solo albums to date, please visit www.matthewlien.com)

Movies:

The greatest movie is the one we're in right now. We're the playwrights, the directors and the actors... and we'll devise the end.Any thoughts on the coming scene?

Television:

Public Broadcasters: CBC (Canada), PBS (US) PTS (Taiwan)... While Canada's CBC needs a serious overhaul and housecleaning, please tell your US Congressional representatives to save the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR) from the Bush Administration!

Books:

Sorry... kinda boring here... mostly reading technical manuals for new music production equipment and software, or recording industry trade mags... What can I say? I love my work!!! ... and of course, a balanced newspaper over a cup of coffee, or over a cup of hot soy milk in a tiny little Dan Ping shop by the side of the road.

Heroes:

Anyone who applies compassion to their every action, and all the children -- of every species -- in the world just trying to survive.
