Statement from Howard Guidry:
The fact that I am an innocent black man who has been subjected to solitary confinement for all but one year of my 13 yr death sentence, is far from an unusual occurrence.
Injustice is outright and widespread in the great state of Texas. There seems to be a formula for this madness.
Black jurors are struck from the juror pool. Paid witnesses are brought in from prisons to testify against you. Overworked court appointed attorneys try to persuade you to plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence. They don’t have the time or resources to compete with the district attorney. And with the efficiency of a concentration camp, men, both the innocent and guilty, are convicted and sent to Livingston to rot and die.
However, what is unusual is that I have maintained my sanity throughout it all. I credit the love of my family, friends and supporters for that. You all give me the motivation to get out of bed each morning. I have made a life out of a death sentence, and life has made an extraordinary man out of me.
I look forward to the day that I am able to be the man that I have become without looking through razor wires or boxed in by concrete. I ask that everyone within the listening audience come out to Benefit Show on the 15th, not only to show support for my phlight but more importantly, to stand against the injustices and inhumanity of the death penalty.
