Mycco (pronounced Mike-O), The Born Lyricist, has been penning rhymes since the age of 11. Originally hailing from Southern Ca. this H-Town rhyme slinger has been honing his craft since the early 1990's. Ever since the Run-DMC classic "The King of Rock", circa 1985; this emcee has been a 100% Hip Hop Junkee. " I can honestly say, that from the moment I heard that song, I knew I wanted to emcee." Blessed with the gift of gab and his own unique flavor this Latino emcee strives to be the illest Latin emcee since the dearly departed Big Pun. "In my opinion, he set the standard for us Latinos in Hip Hop, by being the first Latino to go platinum, and have his music felt by the masses." Cleverly connecting his verses with witty word play and punch lines he was branded "The Lyrical Psycho" by his brethren. "I guess that came from how I dissect my rhymes like a lunatic surgeon." "I set my standards pretty high, as far as my lyrics are concerned, because I want the masses to not only feel them, but to make them want to rewind the tracks so they can hear what I said again." An underground head since his high school days, Mycco feels that much of the mainstream music on the radio is tired and boring. "I just feel like too much of the stuff on the radio is cliché after cliché, and not enough emphasis is placed on the quality of the music." "It's like the only cats who are original anymore are the underground cats, but then again radio is all politics anyway."
Mycco's influences reach far beyond the genre of Hip Hop. A self confessed music fiend, he describes his taste in music as infinitely diverse. "I have so many influences it's ridiculous." "Growing up my Pops was a big time Jazz fan, so naturally I listened to a lot Jazz." "I also, was raised on classic R&B, Funk, Reggae and Salsa/Merengue music." "I think some of my favorite songs come from my Pop's record collection." His goals in music are to be the dopest emcee he can be, and to shed the labels placed on artists because of their geographic region. "I just feel that today Hip Hop is too segregated, and people think that just because you are from a certain city or location that you have to sound like everybody else from there." "I want to change that, and bridge the gap by being unique." "The game is so satruated at the moment, that true talent is no longer the commodity it once was." His approach to the game is simple. "Nobody can deny talent when it's all in your grill." "Good music will always speak for itself, and our team, A.I.M (All In Music Group) is simply all about Good Music. We are a team of Champions each born to win."
Recently I was blessed enough to work with one of my all time musical influences B-Real of Cypress Hill. Ironically, I was born on the West Coast, but grew up down in Houston, and it took me going all the way back to the Westside to get my chance. Look for me on the upcoming compilation B-Real Presents: The Harvest Vol. 1. Shout out's to all the Audio Hustlaz, B-Real, Keen, Young De, J. Turner.
