Cherry Slush

CLICK HEREIt was in the summer of 1966 I was walking to school when I told my best friend Dick that I heard he and some of guys were forming a band and Id love to be in it. Dick and I both played drums in the school band and since he was the drummer, he told me I had to find another instrument to play. We decided they needed a bass player and if I wanted to be in the band, I needed a bass. That was 40 years ago and I am still playing today.Through the many years we were together as The Cherry Slush, we rubbed elbows with some of the best. We ended up recording 12 records and putting out 8. The one that did the most for us was something written by Dick Wagner called "I Cannot Stop You" It went to ..1 in many cities in the US and was ..2 in Chicago (WLS) for 3 weeks in a row. We ended up on USA Records (The Buckinghams -Kind of a Drag) and our 2nd record got quite a bit of good response before USA Records went out of business in 1970. I've got many stories about the old days and there were many times we came close to making the big time but for us it was fun. Period.I remember a time when Bob Segar ask us to record some of his material. We said thanks anyways, we were happy with Dick Wagner (i.e. The Frost, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper) I also remember the time we were on the Upbeat Show in Cleveland and a little known guy named Joe South ask us to come down to Atlanta to record a song he wrote called Games People Play. We could not do this because our parents would not let us miss school. There were many opportunities that faced us, it was unfortunate that our ages and the idea of having fun were more important than a career.Those were the best days of our lives. We all admit it now. Playing in Chicago for weeks and weeks with the strobe lights sometimes the only lights we saw. Racing on the Stones Route 66 in our U-Haul van with the back doors opening up and mic stands going all over the highway. Cars going in complete disorder to miss them. Watching the Hollies leave the same hotel we were at in their limo and us in our U-Haul. Being docked $100.00 per minute for being 6 minutes late at a job in the suburbs of Chicago that we could not find. (That turned out to be an Old Barn behind a house on a country road. Who would have known?) Our record was ..1 in many major cities. I even remember, seeing the girls at the airport to greet us when our record was ..1 in Louisville, ah yes, those were the days.Being on TV Guide, and performing on TV was a frequent thing for us. As I said, it was fun and we never knew how close we were to the big time, Rock Stars.So, its time to relive the past, reclaim our youth. We have compiled a CD with some of our favorite songs good old memories. And if I had it to do over again? You bet!It's cool that because of Myspace I'm meeting many people from Europe who still today listens to our Records. Check out my friends. Many of them have it on their site. In fact, there was one group (The Dorktones- Netherlands) that recorded it and sent it to me.... I'm told it's a favorate in the 60's Clubs in UK (Club Royale)... I read an interview with one of Spain's top singers and when they asked him what the last song was he bought he said, The Cherry Slush's "I Cannot Stop You" (Pretty Wild)......It goes on and on......I'm really blown away from the response of my European Friends... Thanks Ya'll..... It's very cool. ..........SOME OLD FRIENDS:...........Now, I collect Guitars. I got 21. I keep telling friends, "By Friday I'll have 8 or 9 on Ebay to sell." Then I pull one out and fall in love with it again. I've got some pretty nice pieces. My plan was to buy one or two for $600-$800 and sell them and buy one older guitar for $1,600 or more. That was two years ago and I think I've sold two.....I collect amps too.. I got my main bass amp (Sunn 1200 watt) and three practice amps. (65 watt Fender Ultimate Chours -2 12's,--35 watt Fender Princeton Chours 2-10's and Fender 60 watt kick back Bassman) I had 4. So you might say I'm obcessed. If you see something you like make me an offer. Who's knows??? Rock On....****************************************************** ************************************* News Flash:....... Looks Like We are getting back together in April (28)this year to celebrate the 40 anniversary of Question Mark and The Misterians "96 Tears" I'm told there be some other big names from the past..Sounds Like Fun========================================================= ======================================== These are All of my Guitars...
