The Maggots
Sweden is a pretty boring country with all the ice and snow, and people have nothing to do, so they form bands. Then they rehearse until their fingers bleed and they tour until their heads start to fall off. The Maggots from Stockholm have been one of the top acts in what seems to be a never ending Scandinavian rock'n'roll boom. All members have been involved in the Swedish rock scene for years. The Maggots play genuine rock'n'roll with a solid backbone of mid sixties garage. Snotty vocals, jangly guitars that burst into messy solos, melodic bass lines, punky farfisa organ, background vocals that go "Aaaaaahhhhhh" and songs with the name of the band in them all add up to The Maggots rockin' sounds. They're certain to make you shake and jerk!
The Dorktones
The Dorktones, a three piece combo from Rotterdam with great passion for sixties music, play sixties-garage-punk styled tunes from unknown or forgotten artists, with an occasional original thrown into the mix. This results in a totally eclectic playlist of songs, all thrown into the Dorktones blender to create that special raw and loud dorky sound. Despite their efforts to make people believe they are crap, they are a great band and produce a superb sixties garage punk ambiance!
Dj's
The Happening
The Happening are Julia P. and Anna Vodka. They play a fine selection of very danceable treasures from the sixties. Beat, garage (northern) soul, psychedelic and other. And of course, vinyl only! Together they regularly spin their dazzling tunes in Amsterdam (Kompaszaal), Rotterdam (Beat Explosion) and Utrecht (Out of sight!). Who they’d like to meet: a good crowd, willing to dance!
Lord Bacon
Being an aficionado of sixties beat, garage & soul and a passionate record collector, it was inevitable that Lord Bacon was to become one of the deejays at the local Soulmetropool parties in Rotterdam. That was over ten years ago now. Since then Lord Bacon has been spotted behind the turntables at sixties parties on many occasions, for example the meanwhile legendary annual Primitive! festival. He loves to share his keen interest for the sixties with like-minded people and it couldn't give him greater pleasure than seeing the dance floor filled with an enthousiastic crowd, whilst spinning his favourite records at a volume which at home certainly wouldn't be tolerated by his neighbours.
Doctor Love
Last but not least, To Beat! would like to present her best kept secret: Doctor Love.
Doctor Love has been a devoted lover... of sixties garage since high school. He has built up a extensive collection, and he still hasn’t lost his drive for finding the ultimate record. During his quest, he did not only find fabulous garage records, but he also stumbled upon many magnificent northern soul jewels. Living up to his name, Doctor Love aims to please his dancing crowd, whilst not being afraid to surprise them with his raw edges.
