Thankfully, that's not the case with The Gonks.Recently featured on Acid Jazz's new Hipsters compilation of new mod and garage acts, the band carries off its modern-day take on an authentic 60s beat sound with some style - not unlike some of Mother Earth's finer moments or indeed the excellent Clique from a few years back.If you haven't yet purchased the Hipsters album, you can check the track featured on there - Just A Man - along with 3 more fine tunes over at the band's MySpace site. And keep an eye open for them playing live in your area - from what I've heard so far, they'll be well worth catching.THE GONKS - GROWN MAN CRY VIDEOCLIPThe Gonks. Grown Man Cry

Influences: We all came to the Gonks from different mod and sixties-influenced backgrounds. We're all influenced by everything we hear and anyone who says otherwise is a liar. Include (for a start): The Prisoners, The Style Council, Belle and Sebastian, Ronnie Lane, The Beach Boys (especially Brian Wilson), The Housemartins, The Smiths, The Beautiful South, Alan Bown Set, Georgie Fame, Deep Purple, Big Star, The Clique, The Who, The Link Quartet, Jimmy McGriff, Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Brian Auger (with The Trinity and The Oblivion Express), The Inspiral Carpets, The Charlatans, Kulashaker, traffic noises, TV jingles, birdsong, car alarms and the tinkle of a silver teaspoon against best china.Other bands we believe that represent the 60’s scene in our day: Speedball Jr, Fury 161, The Keepers, Beat Revolver, The Staggers, The Satelliters, The Secret Agent Men, Brian Auger and the Oblivion Express, The Outlaws, The Shovels, Curlee Wurlee, Way, The Urges, Maximum Basie, The Goalers, The Madd, The Nederbietels, The 1-2-5, Moke, Beat By Five, The Higher State, Lucy Dee's Angels, The Five Aces, The Link Quartet, The Gene Drayton Unit, The Stabilisers, Slow Slushy Boys, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings and Sugermen Three. The 50FT Combo. We could go on all night. Oh, have you heard of The Gonks??
