Thanks for stopping by. A little bit about myself....
My name is Dan Mumm, I am 25 years old and have been playing and writing music since I was very young. I have been teaching guitar and bass for going on 7 years. I also opened up a very small scale recording studio at my business about a year ago. For the time being I am doing small recording and mixing jobs, while constantly upgrading and expanding, and always learning.
I have played in many bands, starting at age 14, and have always enjoyed playing live. But for me, I found that writing music for or with other musicians only hindered my personal music writing process. More specifically, I hear a song in my head and then was "forced" to change it because it didn't fit into the "style" that others wanted to play, or because they wanted to "collaborate" on the song. To me, each song is an entity in itself and should never be changed under any circumstances. Once I started writing and recording all of my own music, I found it increasingly easier to write songs that had meaning to me. All of the songs on my page were written, recorded, and mixed in under a weeks time. That never would have happened in any band situation I have been in. I guess some people just work better by themselves. It also makes a big difference not having to give up the other instruments parts, that I hear while composing, to a bass player, drummer, keyboardist, or rythm guitarist, so that they can add their own part. Being able to lay down each track myself the way it was originally intended, has allowed me for the first time ever, to create a finished product that comes out exactly the way I hear it in my own head. Also, I try to write lyrics that mean something to me. However, I will never give away quite what that is. Hopefully you can interpret them in a way that means something to you. I don't like to think of myself as a musician as much as a magician. But instead of manipulating objects and using sleight of hand to create the visually spectacular, I manipulate sound and work towards the goal of creating the audio-spectacular.Thanks again for listening.
