...or would you trade it all for a woman's touch..

About Me

Eoghan (pronounced Owen) has been training and working as a doctor for the past 11 years and moonlighting as a singer-songwriter. “it’s a difficult job to give up but the hours made it hard to devote as much time to the music as I wanted” says Eoghan. Despite long shifts at the hospital Eoghan managed to release two self-produced E.P.s to great acclaim and comparisons to some of the most successful songwriters in the world. He has played sold-out shows in some of the best venues in Glasgow as well as festivals in Australia, Scotland, Ireland and Norway. He debuted on BBC Radio Scotland and followed this with a live session on Q96. More recently XFM Scotland have had him as their artist of the week, single of the week and the influential Jim Gellatly had him live in the studio and remarked "one heck of a voice". “I’m proud of what I achieved over the past few years but I guess I wanted to release an album and tour around the UK and Ireland. To do that would mean giving up my medical job”. And that’s what he did.
In 2007 Eoghan's songs and performances caught the attention of some key industry figures in London. “He has a God-given talent – that being his incredible voice. With the right help and development he could go on to sell millions of records.” says Amanda Ghost, one of his new fans.
In the past few months Eoghan has played at the Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, The Grazia Magazine Fashion Awards, The Scottish Fashion Awards and most recently the Q Awards Nomination Ceremony at the London's O2 Arena alongside Athlete, Hard-Fi and the Manic Street Preachers. His passionate and honest live performances are now in demand. Eoghan is currently writing and recording his first full-length album which will be coming in 2008.

Influences: SINGER-SONGWRITERS: Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Damien Dempsey, Johnny Cash, Dave Matthews, David Gray, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Costello, Tom McRae, James Brown, David Bowie, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Ray Lamontagne, Michael Franti, Devandra Banhart, Ben Harper, Paul Weller, Ryan Adams, Mundy, Lou Reed.

BANDS: Radiohead, U2, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, John Butler Trio, Powderfinger, The Who, The Pogues, Muse, My Morning Jacket, The Black Keys, The Flaming Lips, Coldplay, RHCP's, The Beatles, Supergrass, Elbow, Cat Power, the Kinks, Indigo Girls, The Beautiful Girls, The Living End, the Pixies, Wilco, The Frames, The Shins, Athlete, Kings of Leon, World Party, The Doves

Sounds Like: Hopefully distinctive and original though I appreciate I am not breaking musical boundaries. I will leave that to the super-talented and those with more time on their hands. Common comparisons are with David Gray and Damien Rice (popular singer-songwriters in the UK and Ireland) though I feel my music is more varied. I do a wide range of stuff from soft acoustic tunes through to all out rock/funk numbers. An average enough guitar player I feel my strength is my voice and my lyrics. I write songs about life, love and friendship which everyone can relate to. I hope you enjoy them!

I now do my own podcast which is a mix of old songs, live recordings, general chit-chat as well as introductions to other bands that I like. You can access it through my website www.eoghancolgan.com where it can be subscribed to via i-tunes. Alternatively press play on the podcast player below to listen to the latest episode.
