My name is Natasha Dalwood (dj tashi) and I'm 30 years old living in Guelph, Ontario. I moved to Ontario from Winnipeg. I'm a breakbeat dj and producer. I would have to say my earliest Electronic music influence was Salt n Pepa. I was completely obsessed with their sound as a child. If I listen to Hot, Cool and Viscious or A Salt with a Deadly Pepa I can hear how progressing to Nu skool breaks was only natural. In 1989 I visited my family in England. My uncles are all music lovers and one of them introduced me to Acid house. I came back to Canada with a whole load of tapes of London and Chicago sound house. I loved it of course. All the chopped up samples, funky pianos, space age synths and most of all the beat. I didn't hear any of this style played in Canada until 1993 and it's new name was techno music. I attended my first rave new years of '93 and my passion for Electronica took off. I remember the point realizing that the dj on stage was being interactive with the music and I just had to try it. I think I had brainwashed myself by listening to too much Salt n Pepa as a child. All the lyrics about Spindarella and her skills (Spindarella'a not a fella but a girl DJ!) I got to play around on turntables for the first time in late '95. Only one table had a pitch and the mixer had no crossfader but it was loads of fun. I still love mixing as much today and as the day I started. I'm really a breaks dj primarily because I love overlapping the build up and drops together for that extra intense punch when it hits. I find breaks and drum n bass to be the most exhilarating dj experience. Slow groove and 4/4 styles is a more hypnotic experience. I'm currently into the tech funk sound in breaks but can't quite emulate it in my own music production. I got a sampler a couple years ago. Djing and producing naturally go hand and hand. I found that out when I started making my own tracks. All the music loaded in the ubuket are tracks I produced. I felt limited with just the Myspace player. I wanted to share more than just 6 tracks. That app enables me to have one central location where most of my music can be heard (when it actually loads properly.) I have 37 of my songs available on this page, sample from them if you have time. Hope you enjoy the music. Peace
