About Me

Only 1 place to be Friday 1st May '09.........
Joe Kapiche & Ollie Rubicks met through a mutual friend at Esher College in 1997 and spent many a day listening to hardcore & jungle mix tapes whilst raving on the weekends at legendary venues such as Bagleys, Camden Palace and Labyrnth. This later led to Ollie purchasing his 1st pair of 1210's and the rest as they say, is history.Kapiche moved to Southampton to attend university in 1999 and establish himself on the local dj circuit there whilst Ollie set up 2 Fresh Records with Jamie Enzyme after meeting on a music production course at South Thames College. Over the next few years Jamie and Ollie went on to achieve critical success as Malice & Enzyme aka Portal and had several releases on their own 2 Fresh Records imprint plus other releases on other various hardcore breaks labels. This led to articles in magazines such as Computer Music Magazine, Vice Mag, Knowledge, ATM and a collection of gigs as far and wide as Poland, Spain, Japan and all over the UK. Whilst Ollie was pursuing the hardcore side of dance music Kapiche was busy writing for magazines Mofo Mag and One Week To Live and turning his ear to all types of dance music but keenly keeping an eye on the new bass heavy rave house & the more techy side of breakbeat often referred to as Tech-funk. Kapiche played Rubicks the new sound that was coming out and they both liked what they heard and decided to hit Ollies studio and make some bass heavy house music whilst still resseructing their mutual love for rave within the 130bpm range. In mid 2008 J*O*K*R was born.Recent activities from the J*O*K*R camp include their first two productions being snapped up by new Portsmouth based electro breaks label 'Dusted Breaks' (www.dustedbreaks.co.uk) with a double a-side release soon forthcoming. J*O*K*R are also residents at new London based night THEM @ The Rhythm Factory with a heavy lineup guaranteed bi-monthly with past guests including Rusko, Mum Dance, Baobinga, Ebola Tomb Crew and far too many other dj's too mention. (www.myspace.com/themevents) Kapiche has also recently been welcomed to The Brap FM family and will have his first show commencing on 21st Feb 09 and fortnightly from then on. Expect big guest djs & bass heavy madness from dubstep & jungle to house music condensed into a 2 hour show.
