DEFCON1 BIOGRAPHY

"The most underrated breakbeat DJ in Australia" - Inthemix.com.au
Nearly nine years ago Defcon1 began club DJing in his hometown of Sydney Australia. It turned out the boy had a knack for it, and soon enough his name became synonymous with quality underground dance music and innovated sounds, particularly for pushing forward breakbeat driven music since 1998. His now concrete reputation for always rocking the club has been well earnt, and never just assumed based on having released records like so many other DJs today. Coming originally from the hiphop scene, Defcon1’s combination of a mash-up, cut-up DJ style and scratching with club music brought a fresh sound to the club scene which made him stick out way above the pack from the beginning. Pushing a distinct blend of breakbeat, electro and drum n bass (yep, all together!) Defcon1 landed his first residency at the world renowned Chinese Laundry club in Sydney in 2000 and never looked back, eventually holding down residencies in clubs such as Kink and Home as well.
Name checked by Ministry of Sound as one of Australia’s leading breaks DJs, he has been behind the decks of every major club in Australia, while each summer he has been a regular feature of the festival circuit, rocking tens of thousands at festivals including the Big Day Out, Earthcore and the Bellingen Global Carnival but to name a few. For five years his DJ sets have been in demand internationally, resulting in scores of tours and gigs at some of the world’s leading clubs and events, with regular bookings in New Zealand and New Caledonia, as well as stints tearing up clubs across the USA, Mexico and Thailand.
Following a move to Glasgow, Scotland in 2006, Defcon1 hooked up with the Chew the Fat! parties, the leading breaks events in the UK. Here he’s been DJing and helping promote their events at Glasgow’s infamous Sub Club. On top of this, he now runs the underground party ‘Beatbox’ with Chew the Fat! resident and all round nice guy DJ Bradley C, which has been a welcome addition to Glasgow’s already quality club scene. In just under 12 months, he’s unique take on the latest breaks and electro sounds has seen him DJ throughout Scotland at nights such as Pangea and Az-tech, with plenty more shenanaigans planned for the UK summer.
