Every once and a while an emcee comes along who is talented and dynamic enough to escape the requisite labels given to most rappers (i.e. gangsta, conscious, neo, etc.). Mac the Menace is one of those emcees. The New Orleans bred, 7 City, Virginia resident, is a combination of throwback sensibility, present moment awareness, and futuristic vision. It was a chance meeting with DJ Law (of Boodah Bros. fame) that would lead to the creation of the menace. It started with a song called "The Menace" on the first demo the two created together in 1993. The song would eventually become Mac's calling card. Around the same time DJ Law would team up with Big B to create the Boodah Bros., and the two have since had the number 1 radio show in the 7 Cities at 102.9 (WOWI). Mac became the voice of the Boodah Bros and developed quite a following through a series of promos for the Boodah Bros. radio show, as well as a few unofficial single releases. As fate would have it, Mac would go on to host his own radio show at Hampton University's radio station 88.1 (WHOV) as Mac Attack. In 2003 Mac teamed up with DJ/producer Al Bumz. The two would change the face of hip-hop in the 757 with their weekly 3-hour radio show called "Soul Students Radio." Eventually Al, and many of their listeners, would convince Mac to begin recording again after an indefinite hiatus. As Mac explains, "I had people telling me I was their favorite rapper. Not their favorite unsigned rapper, not their favorite rapper in Virginia but their favorite rapper period. That's huge! Not only was I motivated to record again, I felt obligated." The 5-song demo has been leaked to the streets, and several online sites, and the debut album, "A Dream Deferred" is in the works. As well as other projects with the Boodah Bros. all-star cast of emcees, The Boodah Fam, The Soul Students, and some other artists you may know and love. Stay tuned…
