About Me

In these days of synthesizer sequencing and stale production there is a crew of producers who combat the status quo with present-day soul music. Straight from the production team of Soul Students comes Kameleon, a 27-year-old Los Angeles native who grew up in San Diego. As a member of Phase 1 (Sin, Zion, & Kameleon--est. 2000) he provides the production as well as a few rhymes. Kameleon produces for every artist in the Soul Students camp as well as selling production to outside artists. He has been producing hip hop music seriously since 1998 and has been playing instruments since he was 6 including the bass, guitar, and saxophone. He played bass with a jazz band back in 1998. Around this time he joined up with a collective called Mind Over Matter with fellow emcees/djs/producers Thirst, Wooley, Adrilla, Archatech, & JL. It was here that Kameleon developed his unique style of hip hop with a San Diego twist. Upon arriving at Hampton University in the fall of 1999 he met a variety of artists with their own individual gift. Seeing the potential for something big, he, along with fellow rapper Zion, formed Phase 1. The group grew and shrank over the next two years with the final members being the current members. After meeting Jon Bibbs in the dorm he was able to stretch his musical boundaries by having jam/recording sessions with live instrumentation in his room. These sessions grew from jams to album plans and the HU collective know as the Hip Hop Hippies pushed forward with various projects, shows, events, and an overall political and social awareness of the American system. By keeping God close to home he feels that the music runs through him, not from him. With well over 3,000 beats under his belt Kameleon proves to be a lasting producer with a unique ability to touch each and every listener.
