PROLETARIAT- A term used to identify a lower social class; a member of such a class is proletarian. These are those people who have no wealth or property; the term was initially used in a derogatory sense, until Karl Marx used it as a sociological term to refer to the working class.
DJ PERCEPTION IS...

DJ Perception is a prime example of what hard work and determination is capable of in the hands of the hungry. Raised in a small, grimey duplex in a low income neighborhood, Perception is no stranger to adversity, relative poverty, or harsh living conditions. He is no stranger to holes in walls and ceilings, faulty electricity and water systems, dirty cluttered living space, and an underprivileged existence. Growing up, hardships were numerous and frequent...in the Winter months, with temperatures well below zero, the home at 239 Wyoming Avenue was heated only by a kerosene heater or the heat from the gas oven. Truly, he lives by the statement, "Until you know what it means to have nothing, you can never appreciate how lucky you are to have anything."
Around age 11, Perception began listening to more and more hip hop music. He was never allowed to have hip hop music in his house, and if found, his CD's would be broken in half, right in front of his face. This didn't stop his interest, however, and only served to make him more determined to hear everything he could get his hands on in the upcoming years. He began listening to Beat Basement internet radio, and kept himself submerged in the world of underground hip hop.
At age 17, living a wild life that was getting increasingly wilder, Perception watched a horrible scenario unfold as his brother was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison for armed robbery, gun running, and a mile long list of other offenses. Faced with this reality and bearing witness to the ill-fated paths of friends in his neighborhood who had suffered similar fates, he had reached a fork in the road of his life. He could continue as he was, heavily involved with illegal activities and dangerous people and end up like his brother and friends, or he could follow the path that hip hop had laid for him and create music that could maybe inspire others who had once been just like him to straighten their lives out as well. Needless to say, he chose option B, and although the transition from that hood, those ways of living, and that fast life have not been the easiest or the smoothest, he is determined to stick to that choice and continue on his journey to get educated. The first step was to move far away from those troubled blocks and all the temptations and problems that they embodied...hence, the move to Chicago and Columbia College. He is determined to make himself better than the hood & the home that had raised him, and where there was once a persona that advocated violence and heavy drug & alcohol consumption, there is now a clearer thinking and more humble individual.
It is still unclear what the future holds for DJ Perception. It is possible that he will stay in Chicago and work alongside the good people he has met there. Other possible plans include moving to Oakland or 'Frisco to get involved in the Bay Area hip hop scene that has been very influential to him. While the exact path isn't yet clear, what is clear is that either way he will be getting his grind on hard for this hip hop.
DJ Perception is a hip hop DJ...he doesn't spin other kinds of music, simple as that. Some DJ's play that garbage ass radio shit, but Perception refuses to do that shit just to get a gig and a name. He spins records for cats who are down for some of that raw, real shit...that knowledge. Hip hop music and culture is his life, and it's been that way.

PEOPLE IN THIS INDUSTRY NEED TO STAY HUMBLE & KEEP THEIR EGO'S DEFLATED!!
You might be a big deal or on the come up today, but yesterday's news is today's garbage mutha fuckas! Brother Ali said it best:
"You are not the first, you will not be the last. Contribute, do your shit, and step the fuck off...you aren't half as important as you think you are!"
Rich kids...STAY IN YOUR PLACE! You have no fuckin' idea what its like to have to struggle, and you don't really give a fuck about the people that do, so stop dressin' like you're gutter, speakin' ghetto slang, & actin' like you're grimey! Just keep sittin in your $500,000 house with your mommy and daddy banking $100,000 a year or more, bitching about how they bought you a Mercedes instead of that BMW you wanted. FUCKIN HERBS! Beef shouldn't be between the races...It should be between the classes. FUCK THE RICH PEOPLE WHO CAME UP ON OLD MONEY! It's time for the Proletariats to come together regardless of race, raise up, & take this shit, just like the days of the Russian revolution.
And another beef I got these days...what the fuck is up with hip hop acts goin' on tour with a full band?! Some of my favorite acts are doin' this, and it's drivin' me crazy. That shit really isn't necessary...let's keep it at least a little bit traditional, can we? Bring your fuckin' DJ...have him spin your beats while you perform your songs. Cats be gettin' all pretentious, bringin' a full band with them to do a hip hop show...like they need all that firepower. Get outta here with that shit...that shit is kinda corny anyway if you ask me. Seems like it's just another attempt to phase the DJ out of hip hop...it's bad enough nobody puts cuts in their tracks anymore and every DJ in the free world is using CDJ's instead of some real turntables. The state of this music is fucked up, and it really needs to come full circle and get back to its golden era.
Yall can catch me under the name DJ Perception, tearing up vinyl in your area or on some dope projects sometime soon.
Aight Chill...
***COMING SOON***
DJ Perception- The Proletariat Vol. 1...When is it commin? I ain't sure yet...but it's commin. Stay tuned.
