HotFreeLayoutsOn the come up since '99. DJ Ruckus has been trying to set himself apart from other DJ's in the Hampton Roads area. "If people don't know you, they're not trying to deal with you" said Ruckus. After graduating Johnson & Wales, Ruckus thought his calling was in the kitchen, but was wrong "Cooking is cool, but I'm not with the slave thing that goes on in kitchens". It was Ruckus' father that got him his first gig in the Club. "Club HERSHEE was the first club I've ever spun for. My father got me the gig after HERSHEE told them that hey needed a DJ, it was a good look since I was no where else". Although, Ruck played there a couple of times it was some motivation from a radio star that allowed him to take his gift more seriously. "While spinning at HERSHEE the radio star said that I was sounding good and to keep it up". Those were all the words Ruck needed to hear. A couple of months after the HERSHEE gig Ruck was able to spin for Rockmaster. "Rock had Va. Beach on lock as for high school parties...Jamlocker was the first time I was able to come out my shell and get down on the 1's & 2's. Nobody really remembered my name I was just known as the kid with the dreads". It was also at Jamlocker that Ruckus set himself apart from the other DJ's who were spinning at that time. "A club set in those days was Hoes in this house, Perculator and Hot Music. I linked up with some record store in B-More and got just a couple more pieces of wax and did the damn thing". Even though, the party goers were surprised at first..they started feeling the cuts and B-More Club music was introduced to new clubgoers. Rockmaster asked me "What in the hell are you playing", I replied "Baltimore club music, they'll catch on to it". After outgrowing the high school scene, Ruckus wanted to try out local clubs. "I was able to do a couple stints at "Liquid 17 and The Cave", but it was Club Groove that made me. The best party I've ever did at Groove was for some Omega's. The Club was packed, my man's Shortcut was in the back and I was in the front killing it". It was through Club Groove that Ruck met cats like Big Easy, Ja Rule, and Kelis at the times Ruck was there. "I also met dudes like DJ Bee and Karee, but meeting Kustom was a break that was needed" Kustom was able to play a mix Ruck made for WNSB during Kustom's show. Three or four months later I started attending NSU, and was able to get a show on Friday nights due to a referral. The rest was pretty much history. "I started working with A.C.E. through a referral from a Kappa that I went to church with and through that I've done numerous parties for Greek organizations". Ruckus has been blessed to rock parties at CNU, Hampton U, Va Union and The Legion" After an internship at Clear Channel didn't have any openings, Ruckus kepy grindin' until he landed a spot at Hot 102.1 FM spinning records on the weekends. Now all Ruckus can do is hold down parties. Big Shouts to all Shadyville DJ's.http://www.shadyvilledjs.net
