This innovative group of MCs, DJs, and Producers was established in 2003 to carry the torch from the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, De La Soul, Mos Def, and Nas; and is grounded in preserving the artistic integrity of hip hop. The collective mixes the clever wordplay and delivery of the various MCs with soulful R&B and jazz samples, live instrumentation, DJ scratching, and that old school feel that first caught the ears of millions in the late 1980..s and early 1990..s. The Soul Students.. name pays tribute to the group that helped establish the Black Panther Party for Self Defense; the Soul Students Advisory Council, founded by Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton in 1966.In this era of declining music sales, many fans blame the music industry for releasing CDs that no one wants to hear anymore; carbon-copied and over-reproduced ..Bling Bling,.. Scarface fantasies. Soul Students chooses to focus on the numerous other Real topics that people around the world face daily.
