As much as I'd like to be a brilliant singer and musician, I'm not. I am; however, a lyricist and a poet. I wrote my first poem when I was six or seven years old and I couldn't have told you then, but it was the beginning of a love affair with words. I've never gotten over it.
To this day, I am inspired by the rhythm of a song and the way that words couple with music in such a wild intimacy you feel as though for that moment you may have seen God.
There's a line in a Leslie Satcher song that describes to me perfectly what being a songwriter is about: They'll be tear-stained and tenderly folded. Words that I've torn from my soul. Oh kiss one for me when you're holding, that box of love letters from old Mexico. These are my love letters. And for whatever its worth, this is my soul.
The songs you're listening to are part of a project I started with Chad Warrix and have recently continued with Paul Bushnell. Chad is one of the most brilliant beautiful musical minds I've ever known. For more on Chad, click on the Halfway to Hazard link below or visit the Sodium page. (Option 3: Check Rolling Stone magazine.... he'll be on the cover someday!)
Paul Bushnell (Papa Genius Productions) is another kindred spirit and his talent is humbling. We've picked up right where Chad and I left off. Smile is our first and we've got more on the way. Stay tuned!
