About Me

Kristofer Velasquez was born and raised near Chicago, IL. He graduated from Roosevelt University with a degree in Communications (Media Studies). His interests are rooted heavily in the arts and technology. Although an avid moviegoer since a young age, his active interest in the craft of filmmaking wasn't realized until his early twenties when he delved into film studies and eventually the filmmaking process itself. The culmination of all his interests brought about his first venture into the film world with Circling The Drain , a feature-length zombie opus that never completed. In addition to writing and directing CTD, Kristofer also applied himself to the role of soundtrack composer and webmaster for the official website. These pivotal roles, both in personal interest and project requirement, were to be a peak exhibition of honed talent from a youth of practice and ambition. This schema continues with "Deadscapes" and can hopefully draw more definite results and fulfillment from the work put in.

The first episode was a testament to Velasquez's persistence in this craft. But with some time between that era and the current, he's taken great pains to capitalize on his previous mistakes in filmmaking. With episode II, he demonstrates a firmer grasp on the the DIY mentality and method that he has learned to make films by; further proof that a love for filmmaking can substitute for formal training in the indie world. And that training and money is no substitution for passion.

My Interests

In 1968, George Romero created a template for storytelling that has yet to meet its equal. In 2005, fans have seen a renaissance in the resulting genre that was created in addition to the 4 films marking Romero's epic living dead collection. Homage to Romero's films have been numerous over the decades and have come in many forms from screen to print. The world in Romero's dead films have made for one of the most fertile storytelling grounds for many writers over the years. One goal of this project is to reflect on the style and themes, both literal and underlining, in Romero's films. The use of the apocalypse to heighten the significance of human interaction and consequence thereof is an entertaining quality lacking in a story merely focusing on the apocalypse itself. Apocalyptic tales make the reader question and evaluate their decision-making and views on everything, from material possessions to attitudes on life. The imminent threat of doom forces the protagonists to deal with their own humanity in a quest for survival both physically and emotionally. The idea of something as frighteningly absurd as the living dead is as humbling as it is immobilizing in the sense that your disbelief becomes as paralyzing as your ignorance if you fail act intelligently in response. But as figurative as the storylines in Romero's world are, the narrative is only completed with the literal horror of the walking dead attempting to consume the living. This careful balance of humanity and horror is hopefully what can be achieved in the storytelling of "Deadscapes" ...

In the tradition of short films and television series such as "Twilight Zone" and "Tales From The Darkside," "Deadscapes" will attempt (albeit from inexperienced roots and amateur means) to bring about a collection of short films set in the abovementioned world of the living dead. Each episode will be a short feature and available through the official website , The eventuality of a small series is the tentative finish line for this project. At that point the project and accompanying mission statements laid out today will be re-evaluated for the conclusive or continuing decisions to be made.
