YOUNG TALENT, GREAT MASTERS
Together in The Hague Three-Day Music Festival

The Hague Three-Day Music Festival was launched five years ago.
With Chopin in our midst. A year later, Russia was in the spotlight, followed by Mozart celebrating his anniversary. Splendid, busy, successful. Even so we changed tack. Going for something different, something unique. Not composers or countries as the main theme but the meeting and interaction between young and old. Young talent, great masters. It caught on. So we’re going on too. This Easter as well on Spui. On 22, 23, 24 March 2008. In the Philipszaal, in the Lucent Danstheater, in the Nieuwe Kerk and in the big square.
Our youngest musicians are four years old; our oldest is eighty. Dmitri Bashkirov, pianist, soloist. And a whole range in between. The Fancy Fiddlers, for example and enthusiastic school children. Students and teachers of the Royal Conservatoire. Laureates of the Prinses Christina Concours and winners from elsewhere. Including the harpist Gwyneth Wentink. We also have, to be sure, a familiar young face: the inspired Frederieke Saeijs. And again, the Symfonie Orkest Vlaanderen with Etienne Siebens. The Nederlands Blazers Ensemble performs twice. For the launch and the finale. New is the hand held out to jazz. Two idols are coming to The Hague: Branford Marsalis and Steve Coleman. Both are gifted classical musicians. That’s how we cross frontiers. Cross-over they call it, don’t they?
They rehearse, play, sing. They play, they sing together. Listen to each other. They give and take master classes. All in public. Their enjoyment is tangible, audible. In the venues, in the Spiegel tent and in the Classic Express, the travelling concert hall. During the fifth Hague Three-Day Music Festival.
An ongoing feast for eyes and ears. Yours, too, whatever your age. If you come. You’ll be very welcome!

AND THERE IS MORE

UNITED JAZZ INTERNATIONAL
United Jazz International originated from the need of world famous jazz musicians to take a new musical path. A worldwide initiative with jazz giants like Branford Marsalis and Steve Coleman as the founding fathers. The goal of this creative plat¬form (with its roots in New York, Tokio, Shanghai, Seoul, New Orleans and The Hague among other places) is to unite, cultivate and spread this jazz music. The musicians travel as cultural ambassa¬dors all over the world looking for connections with the local public, music colleges and concert halls through their music. The Hague Three-Day Music Festival has the privilege of presenting the premiere of United Jazz International. During these three days you will be seeing the two founding fathers at work.

SPIEGEL TENT
FOR YOUTH AND YOUNGER

Every day in the Spiegel tent, entertainment for the whole family. Come and see the presentations of the youngest talents at the Royal Conservatoire (Pi projects), and of the Suzuki method which allows children to learn to play without learning the notes. And there’s also music theatre. From ‘Opera uit een Jurk’ to swinging jazz and classical music. Just listen or join in. Admission is free.

THE CLASSIC EXPRESS, THE TRAVELLING CONCERT HALL
During The Hague Three-Day Music Festival 2008 Classic Express opens all its doors to young visitors. This travelling concert hall was started to enable primary school children to get to know classical music in an up-to-date and spectacular way. The music is played and presented by the prize winners of the Prinses Christina Concours. Come and listen with the whole family. Free admission.
