I am nothing if not eclectic.
A seething cauldron of contradictions, one might say. Generally speaking I prefer to remain an enigma, but since I've gotten so much shit for not posting more about myself, here goes...
Well, I'm into politics (could you guess?). I LOVE cats. I love gardening, yoga, music, and football!
I'd like to meet:
Independents, Republicans, Democrats... anyone in support of Barack Obama and the Obama campaign.
Music:
As Duke Ellington once said: There are only two kinds of music. Good and Bad.
I love pretty much all styles of music as long as it passes the "hum-ability" test. If it's so etherial that it has no discernable melody, or is just noise... I'm generally not interested.
I have a passion for Blues, early Jazz, and Swing music. Some of my favorites in these genres are Billie Holiday, Artie Shaw, Louis Armstrong, Reverand Gary Davis, Fats Waller and Django Reinhart.
I also have a weakness for singer-songwriters (but only good ones) and can even go a bit into the country realm. I think this may stem from my childhood when I was a huge John Denver fan. But let me say in my own defense that my mother's record collection included 2 John Denver albums, 2 Barry Manilows and everything that Ed Ames ever recorded. So given my choices, I think I can be forgiven for choosing John Denver. Anyhow, some of my favorite singer songwriters are Tish Hinojosa, Greg Brown, John Gorka and Chuck Pyle.
Then, of course, there's classic rock. I Love Stevie Nicks, the Band & Bob Dylan.
And... in the totally random category, there is Bob Marley, Lucero (Mexican pop artist), and Ry Cooter's Buena Vista Social Club project.
If you're into music check out pandora.com, it's totally cool.
Movies:
I totally LOVE movies. More than just the movies themselves, I love the whole escape of watching a movie. I just love being able to totally lose myself for a few hours no matter what the theme of the movie.
I'm no good at favorites... because what I like totally depends on the mood I'm in. But here are a few films that I like:Tootsie, Young Frankenstein, 12 Monkeys, Network, The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty
Television:
I have to admit that I'm sort of a news junkie. But occasionally there are a few programs that I become totally addicted to. I think I sort of have an all or nothing thing with TV. Anyhow...here's what I watch:
I Never Miss The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, The McLaughlin Group, NOW, or Bill Moyers' Journal
Shows I've seen every episode of: The Wonder Years, Northern Exposure, Star Trek The Next Generation, Star Trek Voyager and Mad About You
I totally loved Corazon Salvaje
Corazon Salvaje is a Mexican soap opera made in the early 1990's. Unlike American soap operas, the Mexican variety only runs for one season. This is the MOST romantic thing I have EVER seen.... The total tragedy is that Eduardo Palomo (the lead actor) died suddenly and tragically only a few years after it was completed.

Books:
Well, I admit that I'm not much of a reader. It's not that I don't like books, I just don't like the process of reading very much. Maybe I'm a borderline dyslexic, but I never figured out how to read without thinking about the words. So when I read it's usually non-fiction. Somehow it never seems worth the effort for fiction.
Anyhow, here are a few books that I've read and liked:Siddhartha by Herman Hesse,
Guns, Germs and Steel by Jerod Diamond (this book did wonders for my white guilt),
My Sergei by Ekaterina Gordeeva (Beyond the incredible love story, this is a unique non-political look at life in the Soviet Union),
I just finished reading South by West by Rose Kingsley - a personal account of a voyage across the US and Mexico in the early 1870's.
And of course, I read I Am America and So Can You by Stephen Colbert
cover to cover!
Heroes:
Well... first and foremost:
Barack Obama!!!
ObamaBling.com - Glitters, Layouts & more!
My other heroes include:
Stephen Colbert
I absolutely LOVE this picture. Steven Colbert makes me laugh and cry... I just think he's totally brilliant. Plus his personal story is so compelling. And to have a picture of him with an adorable cat... what could be better?
Michelle Kwan
Beauty, Grace, Fire... what else can I say? She's now working for the State Department as a US Ambassador. Way to Go Michelle!
Mike Shanahan & John Elway
I'm a hopeless Broncomaniac, and oh how I cried when John
finally won a SuperBowl ring!
Bill Moyers
One of the last true journalists left in this country
