Why I support Senator Barack Obama for President
I'm supporting Barack Obama because he offers us the rare chance to end decades of division in Washington and finally unite this country around an agenda for real change.
Over twenty years ago, Barack Obama walked away from a job on Wall Street to take one with Christian churches on the streets of Chicago, where he fought for working families after the local steel plant closed.
In Illinois, he reached across party lines to expand health care coverage and provide tax relief to the working poor. He's the only candidate who has actually taken power away from lobbyists by passing historic lobbying reform in Illinois and in Washington. And he risked his political career by speaking out against the war in Iraq from the start.
This is the kind of leader we need after seven years of George Bush - one who's not driven by polls, but by principle; one who will fight for us not just when it's easy, but when it's hard; one who can actually work with the other party to make progress.
That's how I know Barack Obama will be able to pass his universal health care plan that does more to cut costs than any other plan in this race. He'll deliver on his promise to end tax breaks for companies who ship our jobs overseas and offer a middle-class tax relief instead. He'll deliver on his promise to make us energy independent by raising our fuel standards and investing in renewable fuels. And I believe him when he says that the first thing he'll do as President is to end this war.
Barack Obama is our best chance to win in November. Poll after poll says that Obama is the only Democrat who can defeat all five top Republicans in a general election - by winning more support from Republicans and Independents than any other candidate.
As the Senator often says, "With the challenges we face at this moment, the real gamble in this election is playing the same Washington game with the same Washington players and expecting a different result."This is our chance to finally try something new. Imagine waking up knowing that we had a President who could finally unite this nation around a common purpose.
Thanks for your Support!
