I support Barack Obama because he believes in the politics of change, the politics of integrity - the politics of hope. Our Declaration of Independence states that, for any people, "when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security."Obviously, we Obama supporters are not advocating a national militaristic revolution; however, we are striving for a political one. The current political system does not work, and the old guards in charge of executing that system have failed us, as a people, numerous times.I support Obama because he is our new guard. He is our generation's Roosevelt or Kennedy, our generation's chance to reject a system that grossly favors the wealthiest, best-connected or most-established individuals in favor of a better, more hopeful, more progressive system that rewards those who are competent and just. He is not tainted by the typical Washington ideology nor deluded into believing that only someone with the most experience in building a broken system is capable of fixing it.I support Obama because he is the most important politician to take the national stage in more than 40 years. Like other candidates, he has plans and agendas to help him attain his goals yet, unlike the other candidates, his are practical and responsible. Whether it's providing a realistic phased re-deployment in Iraq, a health care plan that covers everyone without being completely controlled by the government, an energy policy that ensures the livability of our planet or removing the heavy financial burdens from the middle class, he always pushes himself and his staff to craft progressive proposals that improve our quality of life without insulting our intelligence.Barack Obama understands that if all of us simply exercise our constitutional right to participate in the political process, with Iowa being the first and most important state in the nomination process, we really can change the world.
