About Me

COLE BLACK-ARTIST
Mixed Media Abstracts
Cole's works of art on canvas are layered with rich color to produce a translucent quality. Each work of art ranges from lightly textured with warm subtle tones to heavily textured and brightly colored.
Her canvas pieces contain a complexity about them that enhances their environment. As a work of art they play well with others. Like her wall sculptures they help pull a room together and compliment the other works of art in your collection.
Some of her canvas pieces are edgy, bold and can jump off the wall, demanding attention. Others are subtle, blending into their environment, elevating the room to an even balance, causing a feeling of calm.
Cole has worked directly with many designers and clients creating the perfect focal point. Her sculptures can be customized to complement any color scheme or décor that the designer and client are looking for. Upon special request, Cole can design a piece to match any dimensional specifications...Great for those odd sized walls. Her work is becoming synonymous with the simple yet sensual lines found in the natural landscape and is currently featured in numerous galleries on the west coast. Cole’s work has decorated many Designer Home Shows in the Northwest.

“While dreams have influenced some of my pieces I have to say that nature has been my mentor and life has been my medium. “
— Cole Black
Cole was born and raised in Southern California. In 1972 she moved to the Pacific Northwest with her family, where she lived for the past 20 years. In her travels she has spent short periods of time living in Kansas, Washington State and Louisiana, but calls Oregon her home.

“For some reason I always find myself returning to the Pacific Northwest, maybe it is because my soul feels at rest here.”
-Cole Black
Cole is a student and lover of art history. She studies the masters as time permits, holding a passion for the advancements in art today.
She finds art comes not just from visualizing but threw life’s experiences and emotions. Cole has learned to except herself, allowing her voice to be heard through her art.

“ Sometimes I think of myself more as an inventor then a artist. I like to push the envelope when it comes to my work, I manipulate whatever medium I am working with to it’s limits. Then I push some more until it says what I want to hear. “

“There is such a large statement being made in the art community. Expressed through new styles and mediums, that is very exciting. There are few limitations on what art is allowed to portray, enabling it to touch some thing in everybody and not discriminating against anyone's taste.”

WALL SCULPTURE:
Through years of experimenting with textures and finishes, Cole has perfected the techniques used to create her exotic wall sculptures. She is always expanding her knowledge of different mediums through ongoing study of her trade.
These exotic sculptures are part of an ongoing series based on “Nature in Motion”; A theme that Cole has been captivated with for years. In this series Cole explores many different aspects of nature. She draws inspiration from places and times that stir emotion in her, then creates these pieces of art. The results are glimpses into Cole’s self and awaken emotions within us all.
They display nature in a way that can be enjoyed indoors without compromising the naturisic quality we all luxuriate in, while holding onto the healing elements we long for in our surrounding environments. Her creative principles are raw and pure, so as not to lose the meditative and beneficial properties, but her execution exhibits an artistic edge, breathing life into her sculptures.
Cole’s sculptures have depth, movement and uniqueness not found in most art forms.
