Within the local extreme music scene, LOATHE are known to be a band that always delivers the goods. This reputation comes hard earned. The band is currently killing time until the release of their third EP, titled “Darkest Night of The Soulâ€. The band is very proud of their efforts on this disc and consider it to be their best so far, possibly due to the fact that with the passing of time the members have consolidated further and found a musical direction that appeals to all of them, in spite of their hugely varied tastes.
The way leading to this present point was not always evenly cobbled. Since its inception in 1999 the band has been kept very busy with frequent gigs locally and a number of overseas tours in the UK. The band’s 1st EP, “Abort Retry Failâ€, announced the arrival of this band and between this release and the next one Loathe gigged constantly and wrote tons of new material. After†Up Close and Personalâ€, the band’s second release, Loathe played in England for the first time in order to expand their fanbase to the larger island. The band’s greatest effort so far has been the two week “Enemies of Mediocrity†tour in the U.K., a tour that saw the band playing 11 gigs in as many days and sharing the stage with up and coming bands such as K.O.Kaine, Seven Years Dead and Subliminal Fear. This tour took Loathe all over the north of England, visiting Wakefield, Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Rotherham and even as far north as Lancaster. Crowd support and reception on this tour was phenomenal, surprising even the band members themselves. In December ’07 the band returned to England once more, this time touring with Dutch technical gods Detonation, and playing the critically acclaimed Black Winter Day, sharing the stage with many class acts, among whom were Let ‘Em Burn, Evile, Detonation and UK thrash metal legends Sabbat.
Line up changes and shifts in musical style have made the band ever more aware of the effort needed in being a united front and always writing newer and fresher material. The band is all too aware of happenings on the global music scene and realise that one must not be grounded in solely one style or period of time. This eclectic mix has always featured heavily on LOATHE’s agenda and was felt on all previous releases, but maybe never as much as the latest opus.
