About Me

***** HOT OFF THE PRESS *** YOUNG LOCAL BAND ELLERKER SET TO MAKE THEIR SESH DEBUT TOMMORROW NIGHT ALONGSIDE HEADLINERS BLACK & WHITE TANGO AND THE JOHN COPLEY BAND ! ALL CONFIRMED
The Sesh is a FREE original Live music night held every Tuesday at The Linnet & Lark on Princes Ave in Hull.
Three bands appear most weeks and its an half decent night out. Some of the line ups are very special and others will suprise you......It's LIVE MUSIC and ITS FREE plus The Sesh offers FREE TRANSPORT down to The GRAPEVINE CLUB NIGHT afterwards AT THE ATTIC in the city centre.
The ethos of The Sesh night itself, is to entertain by providing a platform for the incredible talent that lies within the city of Hull and surrounding areas. The Sesh embraces, showcases and promotes local music. It also welcomes guests from afar on an occasional basis. There is no door tax and therefore everyone benefits, as the night can boast crowds of 200+ most weeks. Mak, the host and organiser of the night, plays local demos and produces visuals for the five screens throughout the venue. He also plays new releases, current faves and old gems.
The Sesh is not genre orientated but weighs heavy on the alternative. Many might say it's an indie night but Mak would disagree. It is much more than that. If The Sesh is supported then local music, venues, promoters and the City itself will be. It encourages because it believes.
Alongside Mak is Digsy, frontman of local faves, 59 Violets who helps book bands and organises PA and soundchecks with legendary 'lumberjack' Lee. Photography on the night is provided by Darren Rogers, who is responsible for alot of the photography on this site, and three local film students, Christian, Chris and Warren record each show for posterity with the ambition to release a Sesh DVD later this year.
The Sesh started in October 2003 and over 250 local bands/artists have so far played at it's venue. The night is currently booked up to 3/4 months in advance at any given time. Any unsigned band/artist from the area wanting to play at The Sesh should contact us through Myspace and by posting a demo to FAO : Mak at The Linnet 30 -32 Princes Ave, Hull HU5 3QA. (or you can drop one off on any Tuesday or Sunday night)
The Sesh has a good relationship with BBC's Raw Talent team (Check out their Website : www.bbc.co.uk/rawtalent) and was recently featured on Steve Lamacq's Radio One show. It also promotes the local music scene alongside Thisisull.com, Hullvibe.co.uk, Ten Foot City magazine, Sandman, Hull Daily Mail and many other great venues and promoters in their quest to reveal some of the country's hidden gems that are tucked away in this long forgotten and neglected City of Hull.
There's been four Sesh Compilations to date, with over fifty + local and unsigned bands given recognition.
The Compilations feature tracks by the Blueslide Circle, 59 Violets, The Applewhites, Turismo, Windum Earl, The Favours, The Bonnitts, Dirty Dreamers, The Landaus, Park & Ride, Blue Sand, Last People On Earth, Ernest, Sidewinder, The Sneaks, Danny Tacey, Silence In The Streets, Break Even, The Vultures, The Paddingtons, Mr Mojo, Oracle, GST Cardinals, The Shine, Shindigg, The Raindogs, Mile Drive, The Senses and The City Ghosts, The Holy Orders, The No Nothings, The Chase, GST Cardinals, Random Lee, Mr Beasley, Kill Surf City, John Copley, RedNight Strip, The Blackouts, The Vels, Fonda 500, Dance Bastards, The Talks, Supercharge, Shane McMurray, She Likes Parties, Ivy Sins, Cherry Cobb Cartel, Lips Akimbo, Mosquito Fleet, and The Rocky Nest.
