About Me

Free lancing drummer in the Stuttgart area
Schlagzeuger in Stuttgart
Batteriesadeur oder wie heißt das noch gleich auf ausländisch? batteur? achso ja.....
I started playing drums in 1974 at the age of 8. I got my first drumset after annoying my parents with my drumming on old washpowder-cans, which I had formed to a little drumset - soon got lessons and had my first band at the age of 12. At the age of 11 my father took me to a concert of the Jazz Great Art Blakey. In the pause I stood araound the drumset, where Art saw me and gave me a pair of his Drumsticks. Of course I did not save them, but used them up practising.
As a pupil still, I joined my first professional Band called "Matter of Taste" at the age of 19. Since then I hang around the Stuttgart Music Scene and mainly play with professionals.
Besides I studied law for some personal reasons since 1989 and became an Attorney in 1996 - I never stopped being a musician still. After 10 Years I stopped law business for some even more personal reasons summer of 2006 and concentrated on music again. Currently I'm working in the musical instrument branch as a drum product-manager for a distributor/wholesaler representing an international drum brand in Germany and Austria and as a drummer.
I did several recordings and a huge amount of live shows. At the Moment I'm playing with several Projects - and one shining pearl is a new Trio called "Die Jünger des Klangs" (translated: The disciples of sound), which developes to be a Forum for three highly skilled individuals to show musicality as well as the pure joy of playing.
No elevator music!
And recently I played a Tour with the english Blues Guitarist Mick Pini, which was really great.
The rest is mainly partystuff. Hopefully some more good original projects will come up soon......
Whoever has an idea: get in touch with me!
Markus spielt drumsticks.

Lothar Schmitz Energy Band

Lothar Schmitz, git., Claus Stötter, trumpet, Ernst Hutter, trombone, Ekkehard Rössle, sax., Carl Farrent, trumpet, Rolf Kersting, bass, (Thomas Krüger, bass and also Johannes Killinger, bass), Ulli Möck, keyboards, Martin Schrack, keyboards, Markus Hassold, drums
a very good Jazzrock-formation with outstanding soloists. Only one Demo recording, won prices, played as opener for Al di Meola. I left the Band in 1988.

The Hipshots
lineup:
Udo Schöbel, voc./git., Klaus Scharff, bass, Jorge (from Argentina whose last name I forgot), keyboards, Christian "Jason" Seizer, Sax, Debbie and Joel, backing voc., Markus Hassold, drums
A Band that was called together by Jason, who was in Marbella with a comedygroup called "Scherbentheater" (with Patrizia Moresco and Roland Baisch). We formed the Band to play in the "La Comedia"-club in Marbellas Marina Puerto Banus night after night in summer of 1986. One show of the band was seen by Rod Steward, who booked the band as opener for a Marbella show - unfortunately after I had to go back to Germany to finish school. We did one more show in Germany End of 1986 - it was recorded on video.

Phase IV
lineup:
Jimi Wilkes, git./voc.(formerly played with George Clinton), Charles "Blue" Savage, bass, voc., Markus Hassold, drums
In the beginning but then we amicably parted with him 1987 to continue as a trio: Peter Hoff, keyboards
later on in 1989: Darius Gall, keyboards
This was my favorite Band. We were really playing a lot of Festivals including the Summer Jam Festival on the big Loreley Stage opening for acts like "Sly and Robbie" and "James Brown". I had my first picture in the Bravo Magazine 1988. We were planning to do a longplayer recording for a major-label in 1989 but our bassplayer had to leave the band and it never happened. We had to give up summer of 1989. That's one of the cons of a good Trio: every member is irreplacable!

1990: Loretta and the Chipmunks
lineup:
Andi Sauer, bass./voc., Stefan Sauer, tambourine, voc., Jan Seewald, git., Muff Spörl, git., Markus Hassold, drums
I joined the Band for a LP recording in cologne Winter 1990 due to an accident of the former drummer, who broke his foot. The LP Paradise Avenue was released on Dayglo Records. Later on I toured with the Band to places almost all over Germany: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Cologne, Neumünster, Bielefeld (yes it does exist). they kicked me 1991/1992 because they found another drummer who was not in it only for the money..... 1992: while recording with Loretta I got acquainted with The Second Floor
a studio-project in Cologne around the opera-singer Lucas Reese
lineup:
Lucas Reese, voc., Detlev Schmitz, programming/git./composing, Dave King, bass., ….. , git., ……., perc., Markus Hassold, drums
We recorded one long-play CD "waiting for the perfect stranger" in 1992. The album never got released unfortunately - here are some tracks!
1993: The Time Bandits
lineup:
Ralf Dringenberg, acc.git./voc., Uwe Metzler, git., Steffen Knaus, bass., Markus Hassold, drums
This was an "extended power trio" beginning with lineup including the keyboardplayer Axel Wöhrle. Without keyboards the songs won their original face. We did one long-play CD "Time's running" on Ralfs Natural Overdrive music, a small Stuttgart record-label.
1995: My old friend and late Phase IV keyboarder Darius Gall had something in the Dancefloorcharts. He called me to record tracks of the second album of The Vibemares
lineup:
Darius Gall, voc./keyboards., Dr. J, trombone/bluesharp, Peter Galm (+2006), perc., Hansmartin Eberhard, sax., Claus Stötter, trumpet, Sekou Neblet, rap, Markus Hassold, drums, and many others....
The album CD "shizophrenic lounge" was recorded at Klaus Scharffs Basement-Studios and later entered the VIVA II-Jazz-Charts.

will be continued....
