Singing is like breathing to me, I have to do it.. Music is my deepest passion. I..ll never stop dreaming or imagining.I..m touched by small stories and beautiful melodies. I..m fascinated by the secrets hidden in a phraze and how music and lyrics touch in different ways - differently different people, differently in different stages of our lives.I love music in general, but nothing thrills me like jazz. The way it..s never the same twice in a row. The feeling when you connect with a fellow musician in a way never possible by rehearsing, it just happens.I..m grateful for having the opportunity to sing with such wonderfully talented musicians and to be able to fulfill my dreams with melodies and lyrics.Ira & Peter Duo is a project I..ve had with guitar player and producer Peter Engberg for almost eight years. I guess that..s a long time. I..ve had the opportunity to learn and grow my wings, taking chances and enjoy the ride in a surrounding I really love - where nothing is hidden under a lot of things happening, where you can literally hear each breath. We..we recorded two CD..s with mostly rearranged standards, some pop material and a few originals. I..m hoping our next step will be continuing to create our own songs, yet keeping the style I believe is what makes this duo what it is. It..s a challenge I..m looking forward to accomplishing.I feel very at home in an intimate setting, but the other side of me is the glamorous Diva who likes to flirt with her audience and get dressed in beautiful gowns... I love a really cool Big Band sound. I was very lucky to meet conductor and arranger Antti Rissanen with whom I had the opportunity to pursue this side in me. Monrepos In My Heritage is a dedication to the 85 year old living composer legend Erik Lindström. I ended up choosing material not very well known and together with Antti and the fabulous Sibis Big Band we recorded a CD that was released in December 2007. In July I am proud to present this material as a warm up for the Manhattan Transfer at Imatra Big Band festival.I am very happy to be a part of a vocal group I have with two wonderful singers in their own right Eeppi Ursin and Riikka Timonen (please check out on myspace) and guitar player Timo Kämäräinen. The group Castafioren Korut (Kastafiore) perform their own jazz influenced pop tunes and every performance is a riot!I graduated Berklee College of Music in 1990 and now teach at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.I have the honor to collaborate with many gifted and wonderful people as well as some amazing products. Martzu Toivakka (martzu.com) a fashion designer, Dr. Hauschka who produce biodynamic skin and make-up products and Renault Cognac.
