We were A Woman of No Importance! our last gig: Wednesday 28th February.
Hello everyone. We’ll the past few days have been a funny few, so now’s probably the best time to spill. As of Wednesday 28th February 2007 A Woman of No Importance will be no more. There’s no fancy reason to dress up why we are disappearing and I cant elaborate on stuff like this without sounding like an idiot, all I can say is that we just felt A Woman of No Importance had run its course and that the time was right to end.
Over the past three years we've released a 7” single through an indie label, been reviewed by NME, had air play from Steve Lamacq, played gigs in many weird and wonderful places around the country, shared the stage with such talents as The Spinto Band, Artic Monkeys, Field Music, The Subways, Final Fantasy, The Research and had people come to see us not because they were our mates or felt obliged but because they liked the music, at least that’s what I thought anyway. All these achievements are stuff that I never thought was possible when we played our first gig three and half years ago at The Ivy House in Sunderland.
Now without wallowing too much in self-pity I feel three cheers and a kiss are in order for the following people…. John Egdell, Debbora Hall, Ryan Lofthouse, Peterlee College, Mark Taylor RBTR, John Weaver, Ross Lewis, Jenny Redmond and all at Cabin Boy, RPM, James Jam, Adam Royal, Richard Bartman, John Conway, Katie Fish, Rebecca Robinson, Paul Jeans, Claire Dupree & Narc, James Clark, Nev Clay, Barney Britton, Fred Purser, Dave Harper, Peter Hall, Sean (The Wolf), Phil Irvine, Bear Bones Radio, Richard Warren, David Littlefair, The Wombats, The Bubble Project, The Amateur Dramatics Phil @ Ten Feet Tall, Alex @ Pig Pen, Mickey Arnell, Owain Heather, Das Wanderlust, The Brixton Windmill, Dave Clark, Beccy Owen, Andy Kelly, Matt Marlow, Cries & Wild Eyes, Chris & Hazel Lanigan, all the bands we've played with, borrowed gear from, all the promoters and venues who’ve put us on and especially to everyone who bought our records, came to see us and all who cared for our music.
We have a boat load of songs that were extremely proud of (well probably except All My Friends) most of them will be given a proper sending off at our final gig next Wednesday at The Head of Steam. Were hoping to do a few copies mix CD of most of our songs to give away on the night too.
All that’s left to say is thank you very much for your time, we’ll all be back in many different shapes and sizes in the near future, so please do keep your ears to the ground.
Marc xxx
P.S one more thank you should go to a Mr Oscar Wilde for lending us the name. He’ll rest a lot easier now were not brandishing it about anymore, I’m sure.

Sounds Like: "Epic, Jangly indiepop, just how we like it!" XFM

"Swoonsome pop from the seaside town of Seaham Harbour, AWONI are like Morrissey fronting Jimmy Eat World covering Billy Bragg songs. Ace." NME, May 2006

"These four have been raised on a strict diet of tenderised strings and delightfully crafted and simple, yet enormously effective, acoustic pop songs mainly pondering the mysteries of the fairer sex" Crack Magazine

These are heart-on-sleeve acoustic-driven tunes with emphasis on bittersweet melodies and compelling, storytelling words." MMMM out of 5 manchestermusic.co.uk

"It's the wistful sighs that mingle with the whoops greeting AWONI's charming songs that's most telling about this soaring, lust-fuelled, proper pop band." NME Live Review, April 2006"It's good, I think." Steve Lamacq, 6Music, September 2006
