Buy the new album: Stay in the Box only £7.99 for 40 tracks
Stay in the Box is a brilliant new compilation album of
40 of the best unsigned artists from around the UK.
The tracks range from Indie, Rock, Folk, Acoustic & Pop.
The track I have featured on the album is my sad ballad: "MISS YOU"
Biography Paul’s singing career spans several decades. Coming from a musical family in the North East of England, Paul began performing as a child, singing and acting in many stage productions. After spells in Rock and Pop bands, Paul teamed up with his family as guitarist and backing singer in a country band led by his Uncle. Their tight vocal harmonies and high energy music was an instant hit and Paul stayed with the band for many years.
Paul switched genres to join a local rock band, where he co-wrote melodies and lyrics with the bands guitarist. They won a large army of local admirers for their original and exciting Indie rock sound.
Despite taking time out to bring up his children, Paul never neglected his music. He continued to perform live and worked with many musicians co-writing songs and composing his own music, all using his powerful voice, fused with great melodies and catchy lyrics.
In the 90’s he went to University to study Art and Design (his second talent) and became an Art teacher. He continues to teach Art part-time whilst he devotes the rest of his time to song writing and his music.
Paul Carney Music continues impress wherever he appears and his career goes from strength to strength. His powerful, sumptuous vocals blended with thoughtful lyrical content have prompted much comment from fans and the media on both sides of the Atlantic.
With his beautifully, rich vocal timbre he could easily be compared to artists such as Michael Buble, yet his music could be placed in several genres: Folk, Pop, Rock or even country. His lyrics have a definite folk, meaningful edge to them, his singing blends easily into the Vocal Genre whilst his songs range from mainstream Pop Ballads to Soft Rock.
There is much to come from Paul Carney Music. His song: Miss You is released on Matchbox’s Stay in the Box volume 3 in July 2008. He was number one artist on Broadjams Independent Music charts and number three on the Myspace Acoustic charts.
Above all, he continues to please his growing melee of supporters with his stunning new music.

Dying Days
"I wrote this song in about 1992 after I had an affair. The lyrics reflect those events. The song is about the betrayal of the marriage vows that were made 'Until death do us part.'
I wanted to convey the feeling, lyrically, that you think I am singing as the person who has been cheated upon, then switch it around in the chorus, since both of us had affairs and I know what it is like to be on both sides of that very painful fence."

Miss You
Miss You is a sad song about written for my Mother who suffered from Alzheimer's. She died recently on 31st March 2008. It is a sad song for a sad situation. The song is essentially a tribute, a kind of requiem.
It is also dedicated to Jean Adams, my Mother-in-Law, who died on the 30th September 2007 from cancer aged 67. She was a truly inspirational woman, who battled cancer for 30 years.

Insecurity
Every songwriter draws on influences from their own life so of course this song is partly biographical. However, its more of an observation of people around me than it is about me.
It is about the darker side of love, the fear and the mistrust

18 Again
This song contains one of my favourite lines: And Gail is down, about her hips. She wants to be a 12 but she can't stop eating chips"
I love writing humorous lyrics and words that make people sit up and take notice

Jennifer
Who is Jennifer? I swear to you Mrs Carney, I made her up!!! Honest. She doesn't exist. This track is just pure Pop.
My Son
This song is for those of us who have teenage kids and can identify with the truly terrifying roller coaster ride that they bring

A two piece acoustic recipe of honest
Northern charm and comedy intros. There was always a tale and an anecdote shared about the songs they had written and their rendition of 'I Got Chills' (You're the One that I Want) in the style of Johnny Cash was an uproarious sing-a-long with the intimate crowd at Enigma.br Hayley Forbes

A wonderful, painful ballad with a pure voice from heaven. The guitar pieces are spectacular. Thank you for writing this song!

MYSPACE COMMENTS:
"What a truely original track. This has got to be the best song i have heard so far this year. Absolutely fantastic, the vocals were so intriging - I''m sat here trying to imagine what kind of face would expel that voice. The lyrics were simple yet compelling. FANTASTIC!!! The voice and the cello ( thiink it was) in parts were like 2 people dancing"

"I've just listened to Miss You, and it had me in tears. It's a truly beautiful song! Let us know next time you're playing live and we'll try to pop along. I'd love to hear that song live!"
"Your music is really powerful, I actually listend to both tracks in full, and thats not usually somthing I do with other band / singer request's. The words reminded me of things I have experienced in life and the instrumentals me made feel all kinds of emotion's, beautiful stuff man!"

"I've just listened to 'Miss You' Paul. It's a very poignant song and one which I can completely relate to as I care for my mother who had a stroke which affected her personality to such a great degree that she's no longer the same person. You sing it beautifully and with so much feeling that I've got damp eyes. I'll be sure to wear my most waterproof mascara on Friday night. Thanks for sharing what the songs mean to you personally. Much love Fiona xxxx"
"I've just listened to Miss You again, and realised why it made my wife cry! It's a beautiful song. Good choice for the compilation album! Best of luck with it, Colin"

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: paulcarneymusic.com
Band Members: The amazing Castlegate studios in Stockton-on-Tees recorded Dying Days. Mike is truly a genius and just knows his stuff better than anyone I have worked with. It is rare to find experts who walk the walk as well as talkin the talk. Mike is one of those people.

Influences: Lyrically I love David Bowie, Billy Joel, Don Mclean, Bertold Brecht and the lyrics of the great songwriters such as Stephen Sondheim, Irvin Berlin, Lionel Bart and Gershwin as well as Bob Marley, Elvis Costello, Leonard Cohen and so many others. Musically I like all types of music from Ambient to Acoustic, from Pop to Rock and World Music to Local Music but mostly I love melody and lyric.

Sounds Like: My music is a blend of acoustic rhythms, lush keyboards and orchestrated strings. I write music in many genres: Pop, Rock, Folk and Country but I am best known for my ballads.
Ballads are nearly always timeless pieces yet I am aiming to produce a contemporary sound to my music, like that of modern solo artists such as Paolo Nutini, Newton Faulkner and Adele.
I guess I best fit into the Modern Acoustic Folk Genre, whilst still accessing the mainstream Pop sound (like artists such as Amy MacDonald)
I want to write songs that become classics and blend in the strength and power of singers such as Neil Diamond and Michael Buble.
