Lyric AKA Sara Kana was born in the Big Apple and raised in the womb of hip hop, The Bronx. Her first taste of the life she wanted to live was watching the RockSteady Cru and the NYC Breakers battle right in front of her eyes, and her father introduced her to a sound she grew to obsess ove- HIP HOP. And so started the craft that has become a known fact about her (and that fact is: if you live in the Bronx you know who she is). Lyric has battled and been to almost every open mic in the five boros, so her rep landed her a performance at one of the first lyricist lounge shows with the likes of Mos Def (Def Poetry Jam host and actor). She became a lyricist lounge regular and caught the attention of underground legend, Talib Kweli, who was hosting open mics at the time. Kweli asked her to perform at his now-owned book store. Lyric also had people asking for her autograph in the streets, due to her being a regular dancer on MTV's "The Grind". She would rap them right into a commercial. Lyric wlso made guest appearances, including episodes on Fox 5's "New York Undercover".
A few years down the line and right after high school, she began to learn the music business (thanks to her mentor, Al Pizzaro). She worked as the only girl to supply West Coast music on the East Coast to Dee Jays. Al halso taught her the "ins and outs" of the music business; she was able to work with record labels, such as Interscope, EMI, Death Row, Bad Boy, Warner Bros, Virgin, MCA, Universal and Def Jam. She also became the eyes and ears of the streets for Al; soon she was doing her own wave of promotions by working the underground and establishing friendships with well known artists, as well as affiliations with the universal Zulu Nation. This helped the Heavy Rotation street team get a name by hitting events so hard, people where wondering how they could be at 3 events at the same time. This soon landed the Company in the Daily News (well, a sticker at least; but it proved to other label street teams that the Heavy Rotation alien street team was not a game).
Lyric is now working on her solo project and is also promoting for Warner Bros recording artist Jean Grae as well as having been featured on jean graes first album on Third earth Records Attack of the attacking things. She will also be performing on august 28th at Newly open club Wild spirits along with world famous artist De La Vega and this coming September she was asked to compete in the first Latin emcee battle hosted by Red Bull being held at Club Exit. Lyric has competed in the emcee battle event Fight Klub which is ran by "The Daddys" and Shady records and won. She has also just as of 11/05/06 became the new E.O.W Emcee challange Champ!
