When an artist gives up his government name to create an identity of creative art, things can get rather hectic. In the era of G’s , Jess started as “Cool Breeze”(for being energetic). Jess later earned his name “Jess Jamez” on the street for his wild and loose ways, which is perfect because his middle name is James, his first, Jesse. Jesse James Figueroa was born in East Halrem, NYC in the summer of 1981. Growing up in "El Barrio" he acquired a taste for music by joining his father in bar-and-lounge gigs across town. He was just a young boy. At an age when girls came into play and hip-hop began to cross into the mainstream, he moved to the Soundview area of the Bronx. His surroundings taught him that there is only one way to survive: Hustling. Times were rough and life was not kind. When his mother was murdered, he quit school at 16 and lived, worked and ate the streets. His reward for excellent grades in street smarts was the power to write and recite about life. His reward for exercising this power: The ability to perform at the drop of a dime. Jess Jamez has been there, done this and knows it. Best of all, he’s not afraid to prove it. Even though he grew up in a drug-related/hustling family, he also wants to prove there is a way out. “Everyone has an intuition to do what they love. It’s all about finding inspiration, even if it’s your past.This is where an evolution of rap takes its course into the new generation. Rappers nowadays can rise from anywhere and get a record deal no matter what they say. Just because they know someone who has power and money, doesn’t mean they can spit a valuable rhyme. But anyone can look sparkly and shiny in a nicely budgeted video. Jess Jamez is a bit more intriguing. He is a true entertainer with a natural shine. Jess Jamez wrote his first rhyme at 12 years old and produced his first beat at 17 using a Casio Keyboard and double cassette player. As years went by, he went from there to getting the guts to rhyme in the streets and meeting a producer who showed him what a studio looked like. In his late teens, he became very serious about writing and learning studio equipment. Whatever emotion he feels, it sparks the itch to write around that anger, happiness or whatever it is. He is comical a way that those who hear him, laugh, smirk, or say “Damn they can't keep up!!!” Like when he came in 1st place at the MC Challenge(EOW) back in 04'. He has made appearances on internet broadcast shows such as Psuedo.com. That is not to be doubted because the slow flow of his words pour out of his mouth like crystal-clear liquid. He is heard with no mistake. The catch is his juvenile voice spitting theories and memories of a lifetime of struggle.
