I love writing all styles of music. I'm from Texas, where Willie really IS in the water, as the saying goes- so country's right up at the top. However, my mom played a lot of Broadway shows, standards, and opera. My dad likes classical and opera as well as boys choirs, what with being Austrian and all.
When I was still in school, UCLA, I met Rosie Flores. I asked her how one wrote songs and she said, "Well come on over and I'll show you!" And so she did. Thus began the singer/songwriter phase of my life. I played/co-wrote with Rosie, Mark Insley, Will T. Massey, Brett Perkins, John Axelrod, Duane Jarvis, Gar Robertson and Bruce Miller among others. Gigged around Los Angeles for a while, places like Café Largo, The Troubadour, Billy Block's Western Beat at Highland Grounds, Genghis Cohen, Rusty's Sugar Shack, The Mint, The Doll Hut, The Coconut Teaszer….til I wasn't having fun anymore.
So I began writing musical theater. I'm working on a new show now with a tremendous bookwriter and a fab composer. Me on lyrics. Having fun again and writing all kinds of songs now, no fixed category or genre. Recent collaborators are: Allison Johnson, Jake Anthony, Madley Katarungan, Marie Gabrielle, Connie Kis Andersen, and Rachel Gladstone.
