Carlene Anglim

About Me

Carlene Anglim was born in London into a Tipperary family steeped in Irish Traditional Music. She was raised within the Irish Traditional Culture (Winning the U18 All-Ireland Championship at just 16 in 1992) but within the hauntings of being first generation Irish in London which has culminated in a uniqe blend of influences ultimately creating the unique fiddle style that is Carlene Anglim."Carlene's fiddle playing is simply stunning - she plays with such a deep feeling for the music, she plays directly out of her heart - these sweet fiddle sounds just take you away. Just very few fiddlers can match with the deep knowledge, virtuosity and excitement of the playing of this 22 year old girl. Her playing takes my breath away - just amazing!" (Michael Moll Folkworld CD Reviews The third best of 98: Carlene Anglim & Allister Gittens "Mellow Frenzy")Winning the BBC2 Young Tradition Award in 1994 age just 17 saw Carlene suddenly cast into the folk brat scene, with many tv/radio performances and touring extensively - first with Simon Haworth and then with 'Bohinta.' Martyn and Aine Furey's band 'Bohinta' toured all over Britian, Ireland and Europe during Carlene's time with them, releasing a single in Ireland, two critically acclaimed albums, and a large fan base all over Europe. 1998 saw the release of Carlene's first album 'Mellow Frenzy' which was met with much critical acclaim. She has also worked with Philip Masure and Sylvain Barou (Comas), Luke Daniels,Clive Carroll, Greig Stuart (Guillimots) to name a few. She is currently working with Terence o Flaherty on his album, and Bobby Bass from 'The Popes' alongside Brien Kelly and Shane Mcgowen, as well as playing frequently in and around London with Ard Ri, Collette'o'Leary and as a session musician for 'Sentivo' (regular's at Ronnie Scotts).1998 and 2001 also saw the birth of Carlenes children. This changed the emphasis of Carlenes music inward giving birth to a creative edge and connection to a place where many of her original compositions were found. They can now be found by you in this space. Enjoy.
