Greetings from Nashvegas

About Me

I'm a successful, widely-published professional freelance writer and award-winning business writer, with many articles published in the Tennessean, the Nashville Business Journal, and numerous other newspapers, magazines and websites around the country. Currently working with an agent to get my first novel published. I’ve also been involved in the music business for 30+ years, as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, teacher, manager, publicist, reviewer, production assistant and engineering assistant, with both major stars and absolute nobodies. Also worked for years in radio as a classical and jazz announcer, newsman and talk show host. And I’m the only person I know in Nashville who was on the Gong Show. Moved to Nashville, like everyone, to get some songs cut and retire off the mailbox money. Accomplished public speaker; Nashville Toastmasters member ATM-Bronze level and incoming chapter president. Originally from the IA-IL Quad-Cities, also lived in Michigan, L.A., and Las Vegas. See www.rickmoorewriter.com for my blog and a portfolio of my work, and see www.myspace.com/rickmoorewriter for original music. Nashville Time

My Interests

Writing something (a song, article, whatever) and playing music (I also give guitar lessons). Travel (been to 32 states and Mexico). The excellent Nashville library.

I'd like to meet:

Looking to meet someone who wants to invest real money in an artist whose work will have a great positive impact on the masses (and a great ROI).“It is when an individual's faith is weak, not when it is strong, that he will be afraid of an honest fictional representation of life.”-- Flannery O'Connor in “Mystery and Manners”

Music:

The Beatles, Yes, Dylan, Sting/the Police, Steely Dan, U2, Johnny Cash ('cause he loved Jesus but was so unapologetically human), Motown, the Allmans (Duane still rules!), Brad Paisley, the Flecktones, Bert Kaempfert, Elvis, Mozart, dead jazz and blues guys (Miles, Trane, Chet Baker, Robert Johnson, Muddy), David Grisman and friends, Plant/Zep, the old Baptist hymnal, Neil Young/Crazy Horse, Hank Williams, REM, Bill Monroe, Talking Heads, Gary Allan, Merle Haggard, Zappa, Vai (and his imitators), Metheny, Botti, avant-garde classical composers, 3 Doors Down, the Three Stooges, Monty Python..."Every man knows he's a sissy next to Johnny Cash." -- Bono

Movies:

Sling Blade, Ray, Tombstone ("Skin that smokewagon"), Double Indemnity, Napoleon Dynamite, Infamous (the "other" Capote movie), the Searchers.

Television:

Hardly anything. TV is pretty much a mind-numbing waste of time.

Books:

The Bible, On Writing by Stephen King, The Purpose Driven Life, Billy Graham's autobiography, books by my Christian fiction novelist friend Eric Wilson (Dark to Mortal Eyes, Expiration Date, The Best of Evil, A Shred of Truth, Facing the Giants).

Heroes:

Jesus of Nazareth, the apostle Paul, Moses, John on Patmos...Duane Allman (the greatest slide guitar player ever), Helen Keller, Billy Graham, Franklin Graham.
