Myspace BackgroundsDr. Gary Michael Ward: An accomplished and anointed soloist, organist, pianist, teacher, director, arranger, and song writer who has been serving in music ministry for over 30 years. He is a native of Ypsilanti, Michigan. Dr. Ward has accepted his calling into ministry and currently serves as Minister of Music at Grace Fellowship Church of God in Christ, in Ypsilanti since 1995, where Elder Willie J. Powell is Pastor. There he executes his gifts with the Adult Choir and Praise & Worship team.Dr. Ward started his musical journey when he was 8 years old. He set about taking piano lessons and singing in the Children’s Choir at Second Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, MI., being taught by Ms. Sadie Taylor. Later he mastered piano at Grinnell Brothers School of Music and organ at Dr. Mattie Moss Clark Conservatory of Music. He pursued voice and choral techniques at the University of Michigan with Dr. Donald Bryant. He also attended Washtenaw Community College and Eastern Michigan University. He has retired from the University of Michigan Medical Center Nursing Administration Department after 30 years of service. Dr. Ward believes in his heart that in order to become an effective leader/worshipper you must first be an effective servant/follower and be totally submitted to your Pastor, who is your spiritual advisor and mentor in ministry. “It’s not your will, but be in sync with the vision of your church ministry, God’s divine purpose, and everything will fall into place accordingly.”Dr. Ward served or actively participates in the community in the following: Minister of Music for the Minister’s Alliance of Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor and Vicinity; Minister of Music at Mt. Olive Church of God in Christ in Ypsilanti, MI for over 22 years; director/organist at Second Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, MI; pianist for the Ypsilanti Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ypsilanti, MI; director/organist for the Eastern Michigan University Gospel Choir in Ypsilanti, MI; former member/soloist with the Donald Vails Choraleers of Detroit, MI; former member of the Southwest Michigan Mass Choir C.O.G.I.C, with Dr. Mattie Moss Clark; member/ soloist with the Michigan United Voices; member of the University of Michigan Musical Society and Choral Union; music consultant for the Ypsilanti branch of the NAACP; has rendered music for President Ronald Reagan in 1980, Nelson Mandela in 1990, and sang the National Anthem for the Detroit Tigers; has performed with the Gospel Musical play: “On My Christian Journey”; member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) since 1977; private piano instructor; and volunteers for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. Finally, Dr. Ward has traveled the United States extensively rendering concerts, workshops, TV appearances, and Praise & Worship seminars.Dr. Ward has been married since 1992 to Lauretha Brown Ward, author, teacher, intercessor, and Speech Pathologist. They have been blessed with two sons, Aaron and Laurence.
